The point being..big and swole for nothing! |
But to be honest and also a stickler for details (something that my gf points out to me I am far too often), Ellis was evaluated as being an under-sized DT by scouts at the time of his entry to the draft.

Well actually... "Southern California DT Sedrick Ellis, considered one of the elite prospects in this month's NFL draft"- USA Today
He was only a inch shorter than Dorsey and weighed 12 pounds more. "He was voted a unanimous All-American selection and the Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year" Like I said..big and swole for nutin |
Yeah, well I don't know if he was more a product of the system or just over-hyped because of the whole USC and Carroll factor.
He was the best DT available like you said, but it just shows how all the evaluations in the world don't necessarily equate success on the NFL level, but it could be that the system(s) just weren't right for him to succeed. I don't know, I had really high hopes for him, but it has never really materialized (yet). Althoug, NFLDraftScout had Dorsey ranked in front of him: http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings...xpos&order=ASC |

So he may do well here... And he'd give the same production as Ellis with probably a better cap number |
Ellis needs cut or needs to restructure. No way he is worth 7.757 this year. MAYBE 3.5. Also Vilma (6.6) and Harper ( 6.25) need to be reworked. Taht alone would sign Brees and Lofton.

and dont get me started on Bushrods 6.750 cap hit!

Well, that is not so high when we are talking about LT money, and having two guards in the O-line making more than the LT is unheard of really. The question is, do they want Bushrod to be a Saint beyond next season? I they do, then they could try to restructure with an extension, but if not, then the existing contract is fine. |
