Well, up here we just call 'em 'canoes', but the correct pronunciation would be 'pee-ro' ... we got swamps too, just call 'em 'marshes', that's all, and they ain't all over the place like in Louisiana ... or filled with gators either,

. For a city-boy, I've spent a lot of time in the marshes ... good fishing.

we have marshes too...swamps and marshes are 2 different things.
and a pirogue and canoe have different bottoms...pirogues have a flat bottom so you can push through mud and muck
