According to Michael Lombardi of ESPN, he's supposed to sign with us pretty soon, if not already.

Maybe the media will then call us free agency winners. Yippie!

Jordan, Bunkley, Ellis, Smith... not to shabby. Bunkley can absorb blocks while Ellis can do what he does best.

Ellis seriously needs to be restructured though, his contract is probably the most inflated contract per production on the roster.

Yes, I did know that. And after the Eagles signed Cullen Jenkins last off-season, Bunkley became expendable and that is why they traded him away. But again Jimmy Johnson liked him enough to draft him, and JJ did play him quite a lot before his untimely illness and death.

Going by just based on what I've read on some of the Broncos' message boards, Bunkley is one of the few FAs the fans would like to see come back for next season, so he must've been at least decent for them to want him back.

I don't know why the Broncos haven't made a stronger effort to re-sign him, but I don't know if they have on the other hand. He played at a low cap figure for them last season, something like ~$1.3M if I can remember correctly, so maybe they tried to low ball him with a similar cap hit type of an extension. Or maybe the whole Manning thing had put all of their FA negotiations on hold for the time being only to resume after they got some type of a clarification of how that was going enfold.

He is more mobile than either of Franklin and Rogers, and while he hasn't posted great stats when it comes to pass rush, he has far more pass rushing ability than either of the afore mentioned. And he is a natural 4-3 DT, which Franklin is not.

If the cap figures of a potential contract make sense and Spags likes what he brings to the table - I see no reason why they shouldn't sign him, I think they could do a lot worse.

LOL!!!

He's not bad, he just hasn't shined like everyone expected him to when we landed two big bodies to compliment him.

papz 03-19-2012 04:20 PM

He can get after the passer as he's proven in the past... he's just not good eating up blocks.

I certainly don't think he's a bad player, but I do think he is way overpaid. Something has to be done with his contract. I just don't see how they can rationalize keeping it as it is.

FinSaint 03-19-2012 04:34 PM

I agree that he isn't as bad as one might think after reading through a couple of threads here, but he hasn't ever risen to the 1st round pick level, so it's logical that there are some negative attitudes towards him.

He is being over-payed, but the restructuring would almost certainly mean an extension as well, so I'm kind of on the fence about that one before I can see what Spags is able to do with him.
