way to ****N harsh of a punishment

papz 03-21-2012 12:31 PM

Wow. My phone was blowing in the middle of an exam and my patient and I had to stop to discuss this lol.

Goodell certainly dropped the hammer down on us to set an example and though it was harsh, we'll be okay. The foundation is already set and as long as Drew is on board, Carmichael and Spags will get the job done. We still have the appeal process and I do have faith Payton's suspension will be reduced.

We'll be alright.

But DAYYYYAMMMMMM... did it make my jaw drop when I heard the news.

Relax a little...

Brees handeled the team well last offseason.... Basically the same situation as the strike, except better... ast coaches etc are still working.

**** the NFL. IM CACNELING MY SUNDAY TICKET

voodooido 03-21-2012 12:32 PM

Brees can not sign and draft people though.

darstep 03-21-2012 12:33 PM

We've all seen this group in action.
The fact that Sean Payton isn't holding his play sheet on the sidelines is a bump in the road.
If the defense plays midline or better, we still make the playoffs, and from there it's a new season.
We win this one for the gipper. Wouldn't that be sweet? Show Goodie our butt!

There are back ups.... Loomis has someone in the F.O. with a POA to handle these things.

neugey 03-21-2012 12:34 PM

The Loomis suspension worries me more actually. Who will be the acting GM weeks 1-8? Of course it will be the FIRST 8 weeks of the season when most of the transactions and decisions occur in the league. Ugh!

I think the suspensions are very heavy handed. I was thinking it would be 4-6 games, which would have been enough to send a big message.

I also hope Payton, Loomis and Vitt can appeal. What is Payton going to do now? Play Madden on his couch all year?!

|Mitch| 03-21-2012 12:35 PM

Loomis is not suspended until September 1st, so he can draft and resign.

darstep 03-21-2012 12:35 PM

Between now and April 1st, they will already have the 2012 direction set,
and the FA/draft boards layed out. I'm still a Saint.

Payton breaking his leg last season was a testiment that someone else can handle his dutys.

I hope he comes out onto the field as a civillian and holds up our new Super Bowl trophy in New Orleans at the end of the season.

Rickh 03-21-2012 12:36 PM

Cancel Sunday ticket?

I'm seriously considering this.... at least cancelling it now and then re-purchasing it before the fall. Just to make a statement.

I wouldn't want to do without my Sunday Ticket but damn I pi$$#d right now.

SloMotion 03-21-2012 12:36 PM

... this is no time to panic, wait for the appeal. Good organizations face adversity and get it done ... the Saints are a good organization ... keep your heads up, WhoDats, keep your heads up.

Belair57 03-21-2012 12:36 PM

I think people are pessimistic because it doesn't help our cause.

We're also in transition and without the coach is going to be hard.

But I agree, there are NO guarantees.

no doubt! We'd be stuck with nothing to show otherwise

iceshack149 03-21-2012 12:39 PM

The great thing here is that Loomis is suspended for the first eight games, not now while working on Brees contract and with the draft coming up.

darstep 03-21-2012 12:39 PM

Loomis and Payton have put together a group that can ALMOST run on auto-pilot.
We just need the road trip crew to pack all the equipment correctly.

claus808 03-21-2012 12:40 PM

The people here saying we will be ok with Carmichael and Spags, lol. We are done for the year, no Superbowl.

Danno 03-21-2012 12:40 PM

Excessive, but now we know what to do to compensate.

Not having Payton for the year is the only penalty I'd consider over the top. I would have thought 4 games, 8 at the maximum and I'd would have thought that was excessive.

I heard that player suspensions are also coming soon.

pinch 03-21-2012 12:40 PM

The league had to be absolutely sure that the Saints were crippled this year and they did it.

I just cancelled mine. I will sign up for the NHL's Center Ice next Hockey season. I will still follow the team, but the NFL will not get another dollar of mine. It's not football anymore. I am very sad to see a thing I have loved for all my life come to this. The NFL is ruined. Too bad.

Marlboro Man 03-21-2012 12:42 PM

If I'm Benson, I take this to the courts. I don't see how they can prove intent especially when our players and QB were hit with the same violence and illegal hits and the other teams were not flagged or even investigated for it.

This is just another more obvious attack on the Saints and the city of New Orleans and the state of Louisiana.

We should get some T-Shirts with a hand flipping the bird and captioned " This one's for you Goddell".

I wish I could play. If I'm a Saints player, either offense or defense I would take it out on whomever we play. If I'm an offensive player I would run up the score so bad it would be rediculous, if I'm a defensive player, I would hit the opponent harder and harder every play, keeping it legal though and if they throw a flag(and you know they're gonna be quick to throw any flag for the slightest thing) I'd get up and hit the opponent even harder the next time.

Like I have always said, Goodell SUCKS, and is the worst Commissioner in the HISTORY of football.

However, in the grand scheme of things, this is nothing, compared to what I saw our troups do to innocent civilians in Afganastan, that was hidden from the American Public and only shown on Wikileaks. Killing innocent people and children just for the fun of it. These are the soldiers we have honored here at home doing these attrocities and are coming home and being positioned on the streets of the United States by this president to incarcerate anyone that objects to his usurping the Constitution of the United States and the Citizens of America. I never believed that our own military would turn against American Citizens but after watching these gangsters and thugs on film, I now see where the military, who is supposed to protect American lives are preparing to take American lives and liberties. We should all start paying close attention to Wikileaks because the mainstream media is owned by this administration and are hiding all of this from Americans.

LBCutta 03-21-2012 12:44 PM

Vilma is next..

claus808 03-21-2012 12:44 PM

They can prove it by the Saints admitting it a month ago...

TheOak 03-21-2012 12:44 PM

I WILL own this T-Shirt

Danno 03-21-2012 12:45 PM

So, do we hire an interim coach or promote from within.

An unemployed veteran coach familiar with our system would be nice to bring in. I just can't think of any right now.

Perhaps Spags takes over as HC, and lets Carmichael run the offense.

Either way, we have some decent options that can work.

I honestly don't know why the Saints were not just disbanded for 2012 (oh yes I do - lining the NFL's grubby pockets).

We haven't even got to player penalties yet. What happens when we have 1/2 the D (or more) suspended for 6, 8, 12, or 16 games?

The thing that scares me most is how this affects the Brees deal...

Spags as HC? Then we will be like the Rams?

Supertek 03-21-2012 12:48 PM

Can't agree will Marlboro man any more about Goodell he will be the begining of the downward turn in the NFL. Also about our troops our government should not allow these guys to do multiple tours under the conditions they are in they are to blame. I will stop because this is probably not the right forum for this.

You see, this is what I'm talking about. You don't know what, the Saints admitted to. Neither do I, but you can bet they admitted to having a "Pay for Play" system in place, but not a PAY FOR INTENTIONALLY INJURING A PLAYER, system. There's a difference. The league is punishing the Saints for intentionally trying to injure players and that's what I don't believe they can prove.

papz 03-21-2012 12:52 PM

Goodell has too much power these days.

LivnaLieTimay 03-21-2012 12:52 PM

Look, I hate Goodell as much as the next guy. I think he's been on a power trip ever since he took over and has made the game worse. But, I really think some people are overreacting to the penalties, that our season is now over. Look, it stinks that Payton will miss a year but we got the players and coaches to overcome it. I'm sure Payton expected some sort of penalty so he's been working on the playbook. Carmichael and Payton will be working together a lot in the next 2 weeks to get everything on the offensive side ready. We all know Carmichael can handle the play calling for the offense as we saw last year. I think Spags should be named interim HC, he's an intense guy who will have us ready week in and week out. I also think he's a good coach who just had a really bad roster in St. Louis. I still think the offense will be elite and our defense will be better with Spags.

Losing two 2nd rounders isn't the worst thing that could have happened, I was expecting worse.

Loomis not being suspended to until September isn't bad. Most of the team is built from now until August. He'll leave the roster in fine hands before he starts his suspension.

The Saints need to get Drew a long term deal now. This will show the rest of the league that we're moving on and it will look good to other free agents considering coming the the Saints. I have a feeling this was Condon's plan all along; wait for the punishments and hope the Saints react by improving their offer.

I'm glad the punishments have been announced. Payton should appeal but regardless of the outcome I still like our chances this season. Have faith Saints fans! Who Dat!
