Bountygate: Intellectual exercise only

As established in the heading, this proposition is an intellectual exercise only. I am not a proponent of the thought process, just an observer of its existence.

The NFL penalty on the Saints is essentially for

a) collusive behaviour
b) lying
c) violating the salary cap
d) the other NFL owners retribution

So, given the penalty, the entire 2012 season has the potential to be a complete washout. The team is left with no leadership, no continuity, removal of player resources and reduction in cap (essentially, as draft picks are treated differently under the cap rules).

It can be argued that, with virtually nothing but "pride" to play for, the team can be open about its intent for games during the 2012 season.

Professional football is a high risk sport. Athletes collide intentionally with each other at each's maximum possible speed with as much mass directed at the point of contact as possible. It is frequently the case where the initiating party (because of physics) receives less of the possible injury outcomes because that player has more control over the point of contact. This is legal and expected within the rules

Injure any and everyone. Be open and upfront about it. Nothing personal, just take the flag, the ejection, whatever. If an opposing player, coach, team, owner, NFL exec was afraid of a "secret agenda," make it no secret. One doesn't need a bounty to inflict maximum mayhem. Make it an object lesson for the NFL as the NFL has made the Saints an object lesson for the rest of the league. Every dollar paid to a Saints' player is to inflict damage, of whatever variety, on the opposing team. Just stipulate that for opposition playing the Saints - Better keep your head on a swivel, or you will lose it, or a knee, or a rib.

For at least a third of the Saints' players, their window of opportunity for employment (pay) and success has been greatly diminished by the League actions. These players may only get 2012. If that player wants to continue on to 2013, he cannot take a submissive attitude into games or he risks becoming a victim.

Playing the Saints in 2012 must be the most excruciating experience of every opponent's life. Make them thankful that they leave New Orleans, or that the Saints are no longer menacing their home field. Make them have to take out PTSD insurance just to watch film.

Inflict as much damage as possible, because punishing the present team for a minor transgression of a past team should hurt less than this team issuing a beat down when it is well known that it's coming.

This concept is more than just "play with a chip on your shoulder." This is cage death-match.

Intellectual cage death-match.

There is no salary cap violations!!!

The money was from players who put into it and GW. If it was team handing them money then there would be a case for that but its NOT.

Goodell would take the Lombardi away and hand it to the other team. Saying he has facts from the past 40+ seasons saying we illegally pumped noise through the stadium speakers

Xan, now that is bringing the wood! We'd need to trade for Tebow to help layout the opposing defenders.

I like it Zan. I was telling a co-worker just a few minutes ago, before I read your post, that i would hate to be the teams playing the Saints this year. Because there is going to be some serious hurts put on opposing players this next season. If we're going to get penalized, let's give them a real reason to penalize us.

The league warned the Saints to stop the bounty system, and they did not.

Heads SHOULD roll. PEOPLE should be punished, but not the TEAM.

They're punishing the brand. They should focus on punishing the PEOPLE involved.

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed."

problem with that is, ya don't have a well regulated militia.

ya got a buncha dumbass bubbas who have WAY too many guns and tend to be paranoid, racist Tdouchebag palinista domestic terrorists. Most couldn't quote the Constitution if their life depended on it, but they'd pop a cap in your ass in a nanosecond over some misguided dittohead propaganda, is more like it.

my theory is the tdouchebag army is collectively hung like a light switch or a field mouse and all the guns are a compensation thingy for having a tiny dick.

I'm not religious so you'll have to essssplain it to me.
