I think once the Saints appeal the suspensions, Payton's will be reduced to 8 games. Goodell has reduced players suspension in the past like Big Ben's and Vick's so why wouldn't he reduce Payton's? 8 games is still making a statement.

Because Payton lied to him and hurt his feelings in the process.
