Wheres the OLD Tom Benson?

Where the hell is he? I know Mickey and Payton need to be professional and that makes sense. But we need the old crazy guy (Al Davis anyone) to start stirring the pot. |

Also forcing us to sign garbage players to save money and talking crap about the team and the city in the news. Also trying to move us every year. Yep, that's who we need back right now.

Owners need to stay the hell out of the media.
Ownership should voice their concerns to the commissioner and no one else. |

I have actually given this a bit of serious thought, and I think that the guy is obviously not getting any younger, and at some point he had a realization, that people would still think about him after he was gone, and it might not be the way he wanted to be remembered....how do you want to be remembered after you are no longer here...the legacy he leaves behind is important, will he be loved or hated figure in the history of the team and the city, after he's gone....
Also, it's true, the whole Katrina experience really DID change a lot of people, mostly for the better....I think that he changed almost overnight, after the relocation controversy sorted itself out (once it was logistically proven that the Dome could be renovated, and that enough tickets could be sold with the arrival of Brees/Payton, and when it became clear that a move to San Antonio no longer made financial sense). I think it's actually a good thing that the OLD Tom Benson is gone. The new one is a pretty sharp business person, and is actually liked and fairly well respected by his fellow owners around the league. Rather than him being a wild man or renegade Al Davis type, I think he is pretty much doing everything right. Believe it or not, I am certain that his quiet work behind the scenes has kept the penalties and s--tstorm from the bounty stuff from being even worse than it was. |
