As far as Chris goes, Detroit sportstalk did reference interviews with him acknowledging bounties back in the '90s and that a pot of cash was awarded for the most sacks, tackles for losses and other statistics, at the end of the season, the pot being never more then $1000. As confirmed by his teammate, Marc Spindler, they did have agreements to hit opponents as hard as they could in order to knock them out of a game, though not for money or to end careers. Just another example of how it's league-wide and viewed mostly as a motivational tool among players/coaches. I still think if it wasn't for the terminology used by Williams, ie 'cart-off/knock-out', the outcry wouldn't have been half as much. |
