Taylor no 'Average Joe' at safety

Make big plays or don't play.

Sean Taylor lived by that directive during his career as a free safety for the Hurricanes.

"You can't be an 'Average Joe,' " Taylor says. "You've got to make a play out there. You don't get points for batting down balls; you get points for picking balls off and running the other way. Everybody can catch an interception. They kind of want to see what you do afterwards."

This is what Taylor did after the 14 passes he intercepted in 34 games with Miami: 308 yards in returns (an average of 21.9 yards each time he had the ball in his hands) and three touchdowns.

Not bad for someone who, at 6-foot-2 and 230 pounds, is built more like a linebacker than a safety. Not bad for someone who hits like a linebacker, too.
