Kurt Warner still defending Saints

At a time when the New Orleans Saints seem to be getting attacked from all angles, they have at least one prominent person defending them.

Retired NFL quarterback Kurt Warner, who was one of four players listed in the NFL report as having a bounty placed upon them for injury, said he didn’t see the Saints do anything wrong in a playoff game with the Arizona Cardinals in the 2009 season. Warner was just interviewed on NFL Network and admitted the game was physical.

“I don’t recall anything in that game over the top or out of the ordinary,’’ Warner said.

Warner said he did have a sense that he might have been a target in some other games during his career, but said that game against the Saints wasn’t one of them.

But Warner did admit he’s been disturbed as more details emerge about the Saints’ bounty program. Warner said the intent to injure opponents is what takes the Saints’ situation beyond a sport that is physical by its nature.

“I think that’s where the whole thing crosses the line,’’ Warner said.

Warner said he understands why NFL commissioner Roger Goodell issued such harsh penalties against the Saints. He said Goodell was drawing a clear line for all 32 teams.

“Don’t go beyond that because I think this is where our game, to some degree, has gotten out of hand,’’ Warner said.

Couldn't resist including this!!

"A Veteran is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America" for an amount of "up to and including my life."

If you watch the NFL highlights of this game, both Jamie dukes and the other guy at the same time both say "it's a clean hit!" when kurt got hit, it was a football play and you can't tell me other teams wouldn't do the same, they just keep replaying it to try and make their point justified

Gregg Williams is the only one at fault. Period. The players just wanted to do little payouts for regular LEGAL big hits and big plays. Gregg is the only name I keep hearing when the subject of intent to injure comes up. I wish everyone out there would just call it like it is.

There is no reason for anyone but him to be dragged through the mud mercilessly as the whole franchise has been.

Yeah this whole bounty mess has GW's grubby fingerprints all over it. So much of it just sounds like stuff that would come out his big ugly mouth. He had this penchant for talking that way, for YEARS, and people are now suddenly taking every word at literal face value.... Of course I have no idea what was in his mind, whether he really meant it or not, of course he shouldn't have said it -- but my point is that he was ALWAYS talking about crap like this...long before he got to the Saints

From a safety persepctive - players like Favre should be forced to retire YEARS before he did.

That is where the line was crossed; letting a near-on invalid into a NFL uniform to play.

He said he didn't remember anything out of the ordinary.....I'd be surprised if he remembered anything after that hit
