No progress between Brees, Saints
With the Saints launching their offseason program on Monday, quarterback Drew Brees continues to have no contract. And while Brees said, twice, on Tuesday that Brees and the Saints are “continuing to work on a long-term deal,” a source with knowledge of the situation tells PFT that no progress is being made.
Brees deftly avoided the question of whether he’ll sign his one-year franchise tender and report for offseason workouts on Monday. Without a contract, he can’t participate. Without a long-term deal, he won’t have a contract unless he signs the franchise tender. With coach Sean Payton’s suspension starting on Monday, it’s more important than ever that Brees be involved in the offseason program. To date, that extra leverage hasn’t prompted the Saints to increase their offer to the range that Brees would find acceptable. Though a breakthrough remains possible, the fact that the situation has gotten to this point suggests that the impasse will continue, to the ongoing consternation of Saints fans. I don't believe crap these people say. If it does not come from Brees or the Saints then it's not true.
