Question for the Forum
What if, given the situation the Saints are in, NO coach wants to come here? Parcells has said no, Herm Edwards has said no. Tony Dungy, although not asked, has said no; I suspect that the Saints thumping his beloved Colts is why!!
As a Saints fan, I understand that this is a golden opportunity. But coming to a team that is probably going to have its defense gutted and has its draft position ham-strung, it is a daunting task. Also, there is the possiblity of taking a job that, at best, is only temporary. Even if coach ? takes the Saints to the playoffs, the day after his last game he will be filling cardboards boxes. |

That's why an internal interim coach is the best choice.
We already have former HC's and HC candidates in the organization. Not to mention the NFL's top QB (yes, now better than Brady) This will be a rallying cry for the entire team. It's time to shine. |

I've said before, I'm more concerned with the "little things" that Payton had become so good at; the game management, clock management, tight game play calls, etc.
I hope Drew's arm is up for this season... |

Well, I was never convinced about the need to bring in an outside guy to be the interim HC and I still don't think that they need one.
The only valid reason I saw in bringing in Parcells would've been that he would've attracted most of the media attention away from the rest of the staff and the players, leaving them to concentrate on more important things. Vitt will probably take the lead with the OTAs and other off-season events, so they'll have a somewhat proven and a knowledgeable guy steering the ship. Then it'll be up to someone from the triad of Carmichael, Spagnuolo, and Kromer to assume the HC role for the first 6 games of the season until Vitt returns from his suspension. They'll be fine with this arrangement, but they need to get Brees signed because they'll need his leadership during the off-season activities, especially when it comes to the offense. |

Unfortunately i do not think an inside man is the best solution. Wonder if Gruden would be game. Not many out there other than Him or maybe the Steelers old coach Bill Cowher (SP?) that I reall see as being legit. May have to go it alone and I do not think that is going to turn out that well. Hope I am wrong. You just have to have someone in that spot who is the man period and I do not think it would be fair to Spagnola to force Him into that spot right away. There is a reason or reasons why no one has hired our assistants to be a head coach yet.

The problem is, who would want a coaching job for only 1 year? The job is Payton's in 2013!

This is getting old. The team will be fine. Vitt taking over will be a bad idea. It's a slap in the face to the league that is already chomping to find something else to bite the Saints for. Go internal otherwise. There are several candidates in house that can provide solid coaching for the season.
The ship is not sunk. This is another chance for a Cinderella season. |

I don't understand why you state that "Vitt taking over will be a bad idea", because he is probably the best suited for the job if we are considering the personnel they already have in house.
He has been around SP and the Saints long enough to know how SP likes to run things and how he handles certain difficult situations which inevitably rise to the foreground during a season. Vitt also probably knows the Saints' organization in and out and all the different people working within it, and therefore, he will know how to manage all the different personnel relationships - like the HC has to. And if it's a "slap in the face to the league" then I would be even more happy with him taking over - it would be nice to have the tables turned for once. |

Of course Vitt is the perfect fit for it, I never said he wasn't. With him being the interim it's just giving the league more ammo to come at us with. If you think that it's over, it's not. SP, Vitt, Loomis still have to be "reinstated" and go through hearings for it.
Vitt is also going to miss time this season. Soooo, we start have the season now with 1 as head coach and switch as soon as the next guy comes available? Lets have a little consistency. Regardless of that now, he's been appointed. We just have to get through the season... Hopefully with another Lombardi trophy in the dome... |
