I'm really skeptical, guys. Hate to say it. I see this as a recipe for potentially looking down the barrell of 5-11. It's schizophrenic. Vitt puts the team together, to the day the season starts, then disappears? Then someone else coaches a few games, the players get used to that guy, and then he's gone and Vitt suddenly comes back? We play the divisional teams once in the beginning of the year, and once at the end. Vitt can't have any contact with the team during his suspension. So Vitt is going to be coaching these crucial divisional games at the end of the year, blind, without having been there for the earlier games, to know what the heck is going on or what to game plan for. And Tampa Bay has a new coach and Atlanta has new coordinators, and we will have to figure them out with one less football brain on board. I just don't like it. It also feels cheap to me, like the "old" Benson. Grrr. Sorry, rant over.

Vitt is the logical choice to mimic Payton's routine thru pre-season. Spags and Carmichael can do their own thing on their side of the ball, just as if Payton was still coaching. Everyone gets settled into the same routine for FIVE pre-season games and then Kromer takes over, allowing Spags and Pete to continue to operate as OC and DC just as if Payton was here. Its a plan that looks specifically designed to let each coordinator fine tune their side of the ball. Once that repetitive routine is set in place, Kromer comes along simply to keep it between the ditches for 6 weeks. Obviously Payton thinks Vitt is the logical choice to pilot the ship in his absense, and the Kromer to fill in for 6 games. One thing I'm sure of, they've all put a lot of thought and planning into this decision so I'm convinced its the right thing to do given the circumstances. |

I believe that it will now pay dividends. I trust that our locker room has and will continue to handle business. My 2 cents. |
