The contract numbers for New Orleans Saints free agent linebacker David Hawthorne have finally hit the NFL books.
Hawthorne signed a five-year, $19 million deal, which included a $3.8 million signing bonus. The deal is very cap friendly this season. Hawthorne will earn a $700,000 base salary in 2012, giving him a salary cap figure of only $1.46 million. In 2013, Hawthorne is scheduled to earn a $3 million roster bonus and a $1 million base salary. In 2014, he'll earn a $1 million base salary and $1 million roster bonus. In 2015, he'll earn a $2 million base salary and $2.5 million roster bonus. In 2016, he's scheduled to earn a $4 million base salary. As of noon Friday, the Saints were approximately $420,000 under the salary cap. That is really good news!
I was hoping for a contract with an annual average of $4M, so this is a very pleasant surprise. |

Great job by Loomis!
Also have to appreciate these players for being willing to work with the Saints to allow us to afford them, because if not for that, it wouldn't have mattered how smart Loomis is. That shows me something, that these guys really want to come here and win, instead of complaining about having to defer salary. These are very good players we've signed in Grubbs, Bunkley, Lofton, Hawthorne and re-signing Colston... But taking less money to win makes me feel even better about them. |

Loomis wrote up this deal, of course it would be cap friendly it's what Loomis does best, I'm hoping somehow that Drew's contract pays him what he deserves but doesnt screw the team's cap number in years to come
