Saints 2012 schedule

In a challenging 2012 schedule, the New Orleans Saints will face the defending Super Bowl champions on the road for the second consecutive season, and play five games in a 25-day period in November, it was announced today by the NFL. The road to Super Bowl XLVII, which will be played in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome on Feb. 2, 2013, will begin for the Saints when they open their regular season by hosting the Washington Redskins on Sunday, Sept. 9.

After taking on the Redskins, the Saints will open divisional play when they travel to the Carolina Panthers on Sept. 16 (noon CT). New Orleans will face their first AFC West opponent of 2012 when they host the Kansas City Chiefs at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome on Sept. 23 (noon CT) and then travel to Lambeau Field to face the Green Bay Packers on Sept. 30 (3:15 p.m. CT) to close out the month.

The Saints will play their first prime-time game of the season on Oct. 7, when they host the San Diego Chargers (7:30 p.m. CT) on NBC’s Sunday Night Football, followed by a week six bye. The Saints will resume play at Raymond James Stadium when they face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at noon on Oct. 21, opening a series for 2012 in which the two clubs have split each season since 2008. New Orleans will then close out their October slate on prime-time on Oct. 28, when they travel to Denver on Sunday night (7:30 p.m. CT) in the first time the Saints face QB Peyton Manning since Super Bowl XLIV.

A compressed November schedule will begin on November 5, when the Saints host the Philadelphia Eagles (7:30 p.m. CT) at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. New Orleans then hosts Atlanta at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome on Nov. 11 (noon CT). They will then travel to the O.co Coliseum to face the Oakland Raiders on Nov. 18. In a rematch of the NFC Divisional Playoff, the Black-and-Gold will then host the San Francisco 49ers (3:15 p.m. CT) on Nov. 25. New Orleans has defeated their former NFC West rivals six consecutive times. New Orleans will then face their most longstanding rival for the second time in 18 days when they travel to the Georgia Dome to face the Falcons in a nationally televised Thursday night contest (7:30 p.m. CT).

New Orleans will travel to MetLife Stadium for the first time to face the Super Bowl XLVI champion New York Giants in a game scheduled for 3:15 p.m. on Dec. 9, followed by a home matchup with Tampa Bay, Dec. 16. The Saints will then travel to Dallas for a Dec. 23 game at the Cowboys before closing the regular season on Dec. 30, hosting Carolina at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome (noon CT).

both Falcons games in short weeks- thanks Rog

MistaBigXXL 04-17-2012 06:27 PM

It's a tough schedule but not bad at all. I would rather see our bye week later in the season, after Vitt's suspension.

AllSaints 04-17-2012 06:28 PM

Hmm I'm thinkin 4-1 with out vitt... Freaking at GB again come in man !

gandhi1007 04-17-2012 06:45 PM

At Lambeau again, huh Roger??? Hmmmm......

breesfan27 04-17-2012 06:52 PM

Broncos in Denver for my Birthday! Woooo!!

SaintsRule11 04-17-2012 06:53 PM

Saints will start the season 5-1 before the bye you heard it here first.

That was known weeks ago. We just didn't know WHEN we would be there. Soon after the Super Bowl they release opponents. A few weeks later they release home and away. Today they released dates. It goes who, where, and then when.

LivnaLieTimay 04-17-2012 06:58 PM

We knew before 'bountygate' that we'd be playing at Lambeau. I'm disappointed that we play the Giants in December. 4:15 game in December up here in NY is not fun to sit in. I was definitely going to the game if it was in the beginning of the year, now I'll play it by ear.

W. Kovacs 04-17-2012 06:59 PM

Horsepoop that they stuck our bye in to our schedule when Vitt can't work with the team.

But we may still be down a few suspended defenders...not good against Rodgers...

True!

ChrisXVI 04-17-2012 07:03 PM

Oh man, RGIII is going to get the biggest "welcome to the NFL" moment in his very first game. I like Robert a lot but that kid's gonna get embarrassed.

At least they didn't schedule us to go to Green Bay in December. Should be a good start to the season, however the 2nd half of the season is brutal.

I don't think we're going to have multiple player suspensions for that significant an amount of time. If we do, the Packers signed Anthony Hargrove so he and our guys can hang out while suspended and talk about old times while watching the game on tv lol.

Right on man!! Let's pitch in and get a keg!

saintsfan1976 04-17-2012 07:28 PM

First goal - win the division.

Danno 04-17-2012 07:45 PM

Thanks to the week 6 bye, Vitt only misses 5 games and Loomis 7.

Sweet!!!

Luda34 04-17-2012 07:53 PM

I'm going to try to make the Dallas game but I would love to go to the Phil game on Monday night I never did that before.

Unfortunately, not. They are 6 and 8 game suspensions, not 6 and 8 week suspensions. :(

Not what I've read. Where did you find confirmation on that?

And if so, can they participate during the bye, since its not a gameweek?

Bye weeks count for player suspensions, so why not coaches?

So if true, does this actually make it a 7 week suspension for Vitt and a 9 week suspension for Loomis?

Agree - thinking 4-1 going into the break.

Bounty Bowl: Gregg Williams is gone. First, the former New Orleans defensive coordinator left for the same job in St. Louis. Then, he got suspended indefinitely for his role as the ringleader in the bounty program. But you know Williams’ name, or at least audio tapes of his voice, are going to come up when the Saints play San Francisco. That will be a rematch of the January playoff game that was won by the 49ers. That also is the game that has become the most tangible example to most people of the bounty program. The night before that game, Williams spoke to his defenders and urged them to injure specific members of the 49ers. There’s no doubt those San Francisco players and their teammates will remember Williams’ words. That audio tape likely will get constant play that week -- in the media and in the 49ers' locker room.

Bounty Bowl... that's cute.

this is how they explained it on ESPN during the Schedule announcement extravaganza show. Mortenson said Vitt would not be back for the Buccaneers game, week 7.

not sure about the bye. I assumed they would not be able to participate since we seem to be getting screwed wherever possible but that could just be me being a pessimist...

Just added at nfl.com:

NFL.com news: Early bye week works against Saints' Joe Vitt, Mickey Loomis

Thanks a flippin boatload for that!

We get screwed even longer.

Then again, it does give us an extra week during the interim-interim period to re-adjust. I guess thats the bright side. Ok I'm reachin, but its all I got.:p

definitely not a coincidence
add in that the bye week is the time to regroup, make adjustments, maybe throw in a few new plays. I f***ing hate Goodell

RaginCajun83 04-17-2012 10:10 PM

They talking about it right now on ESPN, yeah Vitt can't come back till week 7 and Loomis week 9

goguxxx 04-18-2012 12:53 AM

Cmon guys, schedule is what it is,cant do anything about it. What we can do is stand by the team, and send anonymous FU letters to Mr.Goo's house .
Also,is it me or there are alot of thursday nights games this year?

FinSaint 04-18-2012 05:39 AM

The placement of the bye week seems very intentional, and I can't believe the schedule maker wasn't aware of how placing it there would in practice lengthen the suspensions of Vitt and Loomis with an additional week.

This really has a foul stench to it! http://smileys.on-my-web.com/reposit...others-034.gif

Otherwise, the schedule is what it is - it won't determine how the Saints do in the coming season because one can't predict all the variables that take place like injuries, which will determine the "fighting condition" of a team.

sharke 04-18-2012 05:54 AM

Saints @ falcons Nov 29th.....and Thanksgiving just got scheduled at my Dad's place in ga....

TheOak 04-18-2012 06:31 AM

At least GB is not in December.

We do have the Giants at Met-Life stadium Dec 9th. I believe that will be our only cold weather game.

jokeray 04-18-2012 04:49 PM

I don't know, I think your schedule looks ok, you guys should easily beat the first 3 teams. Brees can run that offense himself.

Lions have a week 5 bye also. That pretty much SUCKS, but it is what it is.

Go Saints, GO LIONS!

Best of luck this season, I will be cheering for you.

I'll also be cheering for the Lions, thanks in large part to SloMo, so I hope you finish 2nd in the NFC North and make the playoffs.

Hopefully this won't be the last season the Vikes play in the NFC North, but it doesn't look too good for their long-term future in Minnesota.

SaintsBro 04-18-2012 05:40 PM

I feel like that Chargers home game is going to be legendary, a blowout for the ages, up there with Colts and Patriots in terms of an OH YEAHHHHH kind of game.

Meachem's homecoming.

Danno 04-18-2012 08:31 PM

When you're elite the schedule only scares those teams that have to play us.

Even with all the hubbub that's gone on, 12 wins & the division crown is very doable with that schedule ... make sure y'all give RGIII a proper greeting to the league in the opener, don't want him getting too big for his britches right off the bat,.

Vikings' stadium stuff didn't go through ... they'll be packing up their bags and moving to Cali-forn-ia ... the LA Vikings, just doesn't sound right.
