Brees is only good thing going for Saints, so pay the man already
1 Attachment(s)
Nine times out of 10, I don't want the player to get the money. Well, not all the money. Certainly not all the money he's asking for, because professional athletes tend to ask for crazy amounts of money. Tens of millions in a single season. A hundred million or more for the length of a contract. Insane. Nine times out of 10 -- 99,999 out of 10,000 -- I don't want the player to get it.
And then along comes the one exception. His name is Drew Brees. Him? Him, I want to get paid. Him, I want to get paid for every possible reason, both good and bad, naughty and nice, reasonable and unreasonable. At the moment the New Orleans Saints have one thing going for them, just one, and his name is Drew Brees. For Saints fans, he's the only reason to have faith the Saints can still reach the 2012 playoffs without their head coach. For an outsider like me, he's the only reason to have faith in the Saints as an organization. Drew Brees is that guy for New Orleans, and he wants to get paid. He's asking for crazy amounts of money -- tens of millions in a single season. Something approaching a hundred million or more for the length of the contract. Insane. And almost every time somebody like that asks for something like that, my immediate response is negative. How much? He wants how much? That's shocking. That's repulsive. But then Drew Brees asks for it, and here's my immediate response: That's fair. Read more. Cut everyone and pay him. We don't need the other 52 players.

"What's a salary cap?"
All I read in these articles. |
Brees will be well paid, I don't know how well yet. With Benson buying the Hornets and keeping the Saints competitive for a long time it could get tricky.

Really?! The only good thing?! C'mon Man! At least he seems to have a good grasp of the financial details pertaining to these negotiations: Quote:

We need the player suspensions. Impossible to work a deal without that info. We could lose multiple players or none at all. It may be for a season or a handful of games. Very complicated with limited cap room. If they have evidence then be done with it...why drag it out this long. Certainly didn't waste anytime with the leadership. Goodell is crippling the signing of Brees.

We are starving for some good news. Precidents have been set already yes the money is ridiculous but other quarterbacks are getting the money already that aren't as good (EX: Vick) so get the deal done. No matter what the suspensions are we cannot build a new team in one year anyway. I say let the union fight them till the end and we will see what happens. Think they have done a pretty good job of shoring up already.

It’s amazing how stupid the media is. Drew Brees is absolutely the best
QB the Saints have ever had and I think in the end there’s a good chance he’ll end up in the top 3 or 5 of all time greatest,BUT to say that he is the best thing going for the Saints is downright ignorant! The best thing about Drew Brees isn’t his accuracy or his ability to read a defense so well but rather his distinct team player skills, which is something you rarely see in such a narcissistic league. The best thing going for the Saints is their altruistic resolve. I’m starting to wish we could go back to when the media never mentioned us. |
Ill argue that he is the "best thing" but not the "Only Thing".....
If he is a 10, there are a handful of 9's on the team also. Considering our present situation, different man holding the clipboard... It is of the utmost importance that Drew's presence and leadership is seen and felt on the field. The thought of starting a 2012 season, with a different coach, no assistant, and Brees not under center is probably the most unsettling think that I could think of. Well.... except for Crazy Rita owning and running the team unchecked. |

If he was as great a guy as everybody here tries to make him out to be, he would be out their with the team right now.
Personally, I could give a crap whether he comes back or not. We gave him an opportunity to restore his career...and made a pretty big gamble, IMO...and this is how he repays us. We made him great and we can make someone else great, too...and still have cap space to sign other important cogs to the machine. Unlike everyone else, I think it takes 11 to make a great offense, not just 1. |
