Nothing wrong with archie saying his opinion... Its Eli\'s call... and if he comes out and says what he wants and gets it, means he\'ll be happier and have to work his ass off to live up to that decision, so it could be a good thing for whomever...
Basically, what you are saying is players have a right to manipulate the draft. Eli has the right to sit out and re-enter the draft next year, or to keep entering the draft \'till he gets drafted by the team he wants to be on.

It\'s just rubs people the wrong way. We\'ve all seen QB\'s drafted by terrible teams and they never complained and made those teams their own. But, Eli, he ain\'t having none of that. He\'s going to do things \"HIS\" way.

Manning in town?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I heard on 1090 this morning that Archie Manning was in town. Did they mean Eli? Is Archie checking things out for his son? What\'s the scoop? Anybody know?

Is Gallery\'s dad coming to town soon?

Ladies and Gentleman, for 2006, here\'s your Tijuana Chargers!!!! And now, for your halftime enjoyment, horns will be placed the Chargers\' players helmets and we shall commence with the bull fighting!
And the value of the number 1 pick keeps falling ......

saintz08,

I hope you aren\'t too old. I\'d like to be sitting here talking to you about the Saints drafting Aaron Brooks son one day. :D

Exactly.

Eli, had all this crizap not come to public light, would have been a GOD in San Diego making a pretty mean salary. He\'d also have the chance to be a savior for a franchise in need of hope. All of which is more than any of us could ever hope for in our lifetime.

But... it\'s not enough for him. Wonder if he\'d prefer to be watching Adult Swim with me right now, looking forward to a day of dull meetings and stellar, middle-class pay?

Who would want to live in California if they had a choice? High taxes in the second most liberal state in the country; Mass. being first. Not to mention OVERRUN with Mexicans just to play on a team with poor management, a history of poor personnel decisions, and a coach who probably won\'t be there after this year. He\'s in a unique position to bargain(extort) and try and land in a city he prefers. Although I don\'t see the attraction to New York either; another liberal venue with high taxes, excentric people, and more Puerto Ricans than Puerto Rico.

They don\'t have the right, but they will do so anyways.
This is remenicent of the 1991 NHL draft when Eric Lindros refused to play for the Quebec Nordiques when he was drafted first over all. He ended up sitting out for a full year. (Although he did play for a minor league team after he took out a $5mil insurance policy). He was traded in 1992 for a ton of players. The Nordiques ended up becoming the Colorado Avalanche (one of the better teams in the NHL).
So basically what I am saying is the Chargers should still draft Eli, regardless of his or his Dad\'s opinion. If he refuses to play for them, then they trade him for a ton of good established players. Would he really play all that much in his first year anyways?

Just watched the Archie interview on NFL Total Access. He claims that the Chargers were the one\'s that asked Archie to get involved with the negotiation process. It was also the Chargers that leaked this information to the press. He claims that during the discussions, the Giants were never brought up. He did confirm that they did in fact ask the Chargers to pass on Eli. Sitting out a year was never brought up, nor do i believe it will be an issue, regardless of who drafts him.
