No Saints player punishments this week
The Saints and teams employing former members of the Saints defense will enter the draft without knowing whether their players will be suspended for any portion of the 2012 season.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said Wednesday that the league is still doing interviews and will not complete them in time to hand down any decisions this week. During a media session in New York, Goodell said that the investigation is in the final stages and he hopes it will be completed soon. Although there had been reports earlier this week that the penalties could be forthcoming, the delay isn’t particularly surprising. The league likely has no interest in creating a story that takes any thunder away from the draft, especially one that casts the league in a negative light. Mike Freeman of CBSSports.com reports that penalties could come early next week and that the NFLPA believes that there will be severe penalties for one or two players on the Saints defense. Linebacker Jonathan Vilma, accused of putting up a $10,000 bounty on Brett Favre, could be one of those players. Per Freeman, the union will fight the penalties. Goodell is all about making us as non competitive this year as he can. No other reason than to wait until after the draft to do this...

He is making SURE that New Orleans does not compensate for his punishments in the draft, and trying to make sure as many free agents are off the market before he suspends players.

Part of me thinks that if the Saints had just done what Goodell wanted all along, and fired Payton and Loomis and Vitt, on the spot, the punishments would have been milder and handed down much quicker and this would all be over with.
I'm pretty convinced that the purpose or goal of all these punishments all along, by design, is NOT to punish or hurt the Saints, it's to try and make Sean Payton and Mickey Loomis so toxic and harmful to the club, that they have to be let go and then Goodell will be rid of them. Because we all know Payton was friends with Michael Ornstein, we all know the league is down on Payton and Vitt because of the whole vicodin thing that made the league look bad but was never proven, and the league dislikes Loomis because Loomis is "arrogant" like the way the old Oakland Raiders used to be arrogant... Face it, Loomis and Payton blew off the commish when Goodell needed the Saints to toe the line, to cross their t's and dot the I's to legally protect the league from the concussion lawsuits. And Loomis and Payton didn't do that, didn't pay lip service to Goodell and the league, and then they sorta lied about it, which actually wasn't even really factual lying so much as it was blowing him off or ignoring him. THAT'S what they did. I think Goodell wants to be rid of THEM, personally, those three -- it's not a grudge against the Saints or about the actual bounties or anything else. And sadly I think the punishments will keep on coming. |

The repercussions from his intentionally dismantling a team that represents more than 1/32 of his market value far exceed the benefits.
This has nothing to do with concussions, we caused zero concussions... very few head shot penalties... no where near the league lead in head shot penalties.... My honestest opinion is that he just has no clue. |

He's waiting because everyday he doesn't announce anything is another day the likes of Pat Yasinskas and John Clayton and their ilk muse in a public way about why nothing has been done yet.
It's all by design. He wants to keep the story going for as long as he can. |
