Saints already have a "big ticket" DE in Smith, and with his salary I think they should try to stay young and hopefully hungry with their DE corps, so that they can have multiple quality guys to rotate instead of just a few stars. |

I just don't think that someone whose won 2 SBs, can be another leader on the field, has played under our DC, and is a hell of a DE isn't worth a 3rd round pick....its not a 1st round pick we're talkin about here. ![]()
If it can be done I say go for it. Osi might be a little older but he still has just as much as Brees has left in the tank. Dude played 9 games last year and go 9 sacks. No one on this team came anywhere near that last season and our DEs played in more games or an entire season. And since 2005, everytime he's had a single digit sack season he follows it up with over 10. |

I do understand your points and I agree with most of what you said, but the 3rd round pick this year is pretty much a 1st round pick for the Saints, you can't evaluate it the same as another year with more and higher picks. The Saint would be getting a very high quality DE (with a lot of package) for a single season after which he would be gone to the highest bidder because you can't argue against him not wanting to be paid. The Saints can get a very high quality prospect with the 3rd round pick, who could become a big contributor for a number of years into the future when Osi is counting his money in a different postal code. To me, Osi for a year is not worth trading away a (vital) piece of the franchise's future, you can't argue against the importance of bringing in new rookie players at a constant rate each and every single season - that is how good franchises stay good, something that the Failclowns don't understand. |
