Dwight Freeney
Colts say they are interested in a trade. He's getting 14 mil this year so the contract has to be worked. I know you guys talk about Osi earlier but what about Dwight. For the same 3rd or 4th round pick who would you want?

Way too expensive!

I, personally, wouldn't trade either the 3th or the 4th for either one of these guys if they come with the current price tags - OU being closer to being a possible trade because of the lower salary and prior relationship with Spags.
Saints already have a "big ticket" DE in Smith, and with his salary I think they should try to stay young and hopefully hungry with their DE corps, so that they can have multiple quality guys to rotate instead of just a few stars. |
That's why you give them Smith in the trade... He has a Saints Jersy but probably will not be able to wear it for the first 1/2 of the season.

If it can be done I say go for it. Osi might be a little older but he still has just as much as Brees has left in the tank. Dude played 9 games last year and go 9 sacks. No one on this team came anywhere near that last season and our DEs played in more games or an entire season. And since 2005, everytime he's had a single digit sack season he follows it up with over 10. |
He doesn't play DT. That's where we have to improve. Our DE's are decent to good and Romeus may work out well when he's healthy. We have to draft for need first. Give me a DT that can rush the passer. Even if we have to trade up to get that player. DT!!!

Why do you think they would take Smith and his contract... if anything I would think that adding Smith to the trade would decrease the Saints' trade offer. |

Will Smith this year: 7,312,500 Freeney this year: 19,035,000 :hallucinate: you tell me why they would take him |

I do understand your points and I agree with most of what you said, but the 3rd round pick this year is pretty much a 1st round pick for the Saints, you can't evaluate it the same as another year with more and higher picks. The Saint would be getting a very high quality DE (with a lot of package) for a single season after which he would be gone to the highest bidder because you can't argue against him not wanting to be paid. The Saints can get a very high quality prospect with the 3rd round pick, who could become a big contributor for a number of years into the future when Osi is counting his money in a different postal code. To me, Osi for a year is not worth trading away a (vital) piece of the franchise's future, you can't argue against the importance of bringing in new rookie players at a constant rate each and every single season - that is how good franchises stay good, something that the Failclowns don't understand. |

I thought that you were talking about the Giants and Osi, but I certainly don't think that the Saints should give up a 3rd and Smith for Freeney on his current contract. If Loomis made that trade, I would seriously lose respect for him. |
This is the Freeney thread.
My comments on Osi are in that thread. ;-) |

I want a DT a whole lot more than a DE at this point, Osi or Freeney. I'm not high on Smith either but we will see if he is worth this money.
|
I would also rather see the Saints pick a DT prospect with either their 3rd or 4th pick than make a trade for either of these guys.
|
I'm calling for a DE/DT hybrid in the 3rd; someone like Billy Winn or Derek Wolfe!
|
I'd rather use the money to get drew secured first, then I'd pass on Freeney anyway.

I just hope that Wolfe is still available when the Saints pick in the 3rd, but I think that he won't, so either they trade up to get him or they settle for someone else like Winn. Of course, I don't even know if they like Wolfe or how they've graded him, but I've been pushing for the Saints to pick him since January, so I can't really change my opinion now. |
Hartford Ct own Dwight Freeny !
