Vilma and Williams are the cream of the 2004 linebackers class. They're the only linebackers certain to be first-round picks. Only four linebackers have been selected in the first round in the past three years.

But Vilma and Williams are worthy. The only question is which one will be drafted first. The New York Jets (12th pick) and New Orleans Saints (18th) have indicated they like Vilma, while the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (15th) and Denver Broncos (17th) are considering Williams.

Some teams prefer Williams because of his athleticism and speed. Other teams prefer Vilma because of his versatility, instincts and production. He's a strong tackler.

Vilma, however, has a problem knee that might need surgery. If it does, his recovery time would be a year. The Vikings are aware of his medical situation but still are considering him. Most teams probably have moved Williams ahead of his teammate.
