OVERVIEW
Jones is one of the top offensive tackles in the class after starting for two years on some highly productive Nebraska offensive lines. He has the size and footwork to compete for a job at left tackle at the next level, and such prospects often have second or third round value. Jones is no different, and he has the talent to start early in his NFL career. Look for him to make a move to the right side, though, as he is less reliable powering off his right foot and isn't quite at the level to start immediately protecting on the left side.

STRENGTHS
He is a polished run blocker from his time spent in the Nebraska offense, but he is an accomplished pass protector as well. He has size to block any defensive end in the NFL and a pass set and anchor to stop a bull rush. He is athletic enough to recover against pro defensive ends and would be a physically imposing player on any offensive line. He likely will need to begin his NFL career on the right side as he develops the flexibility and reliability to be a blindside blocker.

WEAKNESSES
Jones can struggle at times in space, as he is a big man and can take a few steps to get going. He is reliable at sustaining blocks once there but can struggle to throttle down and set on linebackers.

Marcel Jones, T - Nebraska | Player Profile | 2012 Combine | NFL.com

Saints selected Nebraska T Marcel Jones with the No. 234 overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft.

An injury riddles career at Nebraska makes Jones a risk as a late-round pick. His length and frame is attractive but Jones' post season workouts were terrible, running a lumbering 5.67 Combine forty and only 13 bench press reps. His development was stunted in college due to nagging injuries, but maybe he will finally stay healthy int he NFL.

All I gotta say is Streif was a 7th round pick and that eventually worked out pretty good. I have all the faith in the world with anyone we draft for O line. Our track record speaks for itself.

13 reps at 225? Even my weak self can do 8. That does not sound good but am leaning towards he can be molded just like Strief, it will just take a while.

Positives: Passes the eye test -- impressive frame, thick lower half and overall length with 34-inch arms and 10 1/4-inch hands. Has the athleticism and foot quickness to do the job in a short area. Has added 30 pounds of bulk at Nebraska. Improved fundamentals. Very good toughness.

Negatives: Limited the past three seasons by injuries (ankle, back) and wasn't an every-down player in 2011. Carries sloppy weight and isn't an elite athlete. Poor balance with a bad habit of lunging, bending at the waist and spending too much time on the ground. Not overly physical. Raw and has missed significant playing time.

I just don't get it.

Especially when James Brown from Troy is still not picked. THAT would have made more sense.

I actually like the pick.

Even if the guy may have gone UDFA why take the chance. Might as well gamble on him and use a 7th that way you own his rights.

They have done pretty good at discovering gems. We also need to beef up on our lines I think it will help Ingram out the most.
