Jason Cole on Saints draft
"Losers: New Orleans Saints – This doesn't have a lot to do with the players the Saints took. By all accounts, defensive tackle Akiem Hicks from the University of Regina (that's up in Saskatchewan, Canada, for those unfamiliar with that football powerhouse) and wide receiver Nick Toon (son of Al) are solid pickups. However, the penalties for the bounty scandal continue to loom for the Saints and one of the big reasons that the team didn't find out how bad things will be before the draft is that the players have refused to talk to the NFL. That refusal isn't going to stop the penalties from happening, but it has delayed the announcement."
It doesn't have ANYTHING to do with the players the Saints took. Yes, we know penalties are coming down range! We are quite aware of that fact, everyone is aware of it. Everyone is also aware that the draft and the penalties are two completely different topics. We get two solid players but it doesn't matter because the Saints have penalties so therefore they had a crappy draft. Now that's outstanding journalism. |

Really?!
We are losers in the draft because of the penalties yet to come? |

So he's calling us "Losers" in the draft even though what he wrote in that paragraph has nothing to do with our draft? I guess Cole doesn't realize the Draft and Bounty Gate are two different things. He already gets my nomination for "Idiot of the Year"

Look. Vitt has repeatedly stated that Ingram and Romeus are our first two picks this year.
I choose to look at our draft in this way. The draft is hit or miss in the best of times. Goosfraba....... |

Here's the thing. You can call us losers in the draft, im fine with that. We were at a severe disadvantage just like some of the other teams for one reason or another ( Raiders, Falcons). But if you do like I do take into account all free agents aquisitions ( Better believe we are still gonna be looking at more signings) and draft we have done masterfully under the circumstances so tell Cole to get bent.
This team had before free agency, gaping wholes!!!!! - Franchise QB unsigned - Number One wideout unsigned - Top pass protector unsigned - Glaring wholes at Linebacker DE, and DT - Corner unsigned - Up against salary cap!!!!!! The only thing I would have done differently with the draft is gone 100% Defensive!!!! But I can't get mad at them for bolstering the Oline either!!!!! |

I'm not overly excited about this draft class but there is some potential there. I liked the selections of Toon and White, in particular, but they all have at least some upside.
This Cole idiot is so obviously biased, as he has been adamant in his hatred for the Saints for a while now. Calls us draft losers because our players won't talk. What is there to talk about, and what does that have to do with the draft? |

I give our draft a C-plus
I give Jason Cole an F. If Pete Prisco and Mike Florio had a baby, it would be Jason Cole. |

I personally don't even care anymore, if everyone in the media and on the message boards gives our draft straight "F"s.... I trust our front office completely, and I actually get kind of excited now when they pick these kooky guys that nobody has ever heard of. What about Colston? Nicks? Pierre? Chris Ivory? Come on, folks. There is a saying about being "the smartest guy in the room," well that guy is Payton and Loomis, and not these beat writers, sports talking heads, or Message Board Guy...
Also keep in mind, if a lot of these guys the Saints just picked in the draft were kinda off the radar, unknown guys without a lot of hype to them... that translates into LOWER PAY for them (hey, kid, here's your shot, it's the NFL, take it or leave it, do you want in or not?) which means MORE MONEY left over for Drew. And like Colston Ivory etc. these guys are gonna be more hungry to want it. I don't know if I'd give them an "A" but this draft was very smart. I mean like, super smartest guy in the room type smart.... |
