The Saints gave Appalachian State RB/KR Travaris Cadet a $30,000 bonus to sign as a rookie free agent.
We didn't hear of any 2011 UDFA signing bonuses this big, and Scout.com's Aaron Wilson confirms it's the largest signing bonus handed out to an undrafted rookie of which he's heard this year. Cadet returned punts and kicks at App State, and played running back, receiver, and quarterback. He was primarily a tailback, and will compete for a roster spot on New Orleans' special teams. Sounds like a really versatile player, could be well worth some pocket change.

Relief for Mighty Mouse. It could spell the end of Roby though.

30g's is nothing to retain the rights to a player who may have multidimensional value. Considering the rookie scale is several times that figure, it makes sense to offer as much as is necessary to see what might transpire. Probably a bargain. Speed cannot be taught.
