Just a random thought here:
Lots of us (the fans) have speculated that the real reason for the harsh player/coach punishments is to help protect the league through the course of the multiple lawsuits being brought against the league by former players. I'm thinking that the evidence is being withheld for the same reason: so that it cannot be used by the lawyers bringing suits against the league. If they release it to the public, it could be used against them. I'm not saying I agree with their refusal to release the evidence, but that could very well be why they are refusing. |

This was, in my opinion, a very honest take on the whole situation. Written much better than I ever could, the them is as many of us have been saying:
SHOW US THE EVIDENCE If we're guilty, if you can pin this on a select few players with REAL evidence, the fine...but if you can't? If you can't then, well, let these men play. |

This article reflects the direction that the media is moving. I'm glad for that.

And how does Shanle explain the Williams audio tape and the exhortations to injure opponents?
"Guys say crazy things all the time," Shanle said. "Gregg is one of the greatest motivators I've been around, but when he says things like 'kill the head and the body will die,' people don't take it literally. It was more of a device to get guys in a frame of mind to play a violent game at an insanely high level of intensity. It takes you to a place mentally that guys can't go otherwise From the tiome you play Pop Warner Football we have been exposed to the crazy rantings of a coach like GW.. "Take his friggin head off".... "Rip his heart out"... "Break his will" This tape has been trumpeted as proof positive of a Saints Bounty.... yet nothing happened.... not a SINGLE penalty.... Watch the tape... No one is shooting for knees or cheap shots to heads... IT DIDNT HAPPEN.... If listening to this tape sickens anyone then they have really weak stomachs or have never played a competitive sport in their life... Thats all they have.. Like Vitt said.. WORDS.... sneak a microphone into any locker room and I promise you will hear the same things being said.... Its time for this madness to be exposed.... Goodell has NO evidence.... It is all smoke and mirrors.... and the Saints are paying heavily.... Its a dmaned shame but really there is nothing that can be done... nothing except winning the friggin Super Bowl and booing his @ss off the platform as he hands the trophy to TB |
