It will stop a bruise.
I wouldn't play without knee pads, or shin caps, or without my ankles wrapped. If you've ever had raw bone to helmet on a cold day in December then you know what I'm talking about. I always wondered why guys opted out of knee pads. They don't slow you down. There is probably some fool that would play without a helmet. Go for it. |

The first thing Mike Singeltary did when he came to the 49ers was to make Patrick Willis wear more pads wit the reasoning it would help him avoid small bumps and bruises that only serves to slow a player down.

A knee to the head hurts much less if that knee is padded.

... and yet, helmet to helmet spearing from defensive player to RB is still legal. Go figure...
