Cowterd knows all too well why New Orleans is a great destination.
He also knows that by starting crap people pay attention. He has done this his whole career (like a lot of them) so it's nothing new. "Look at me, I have an opinion with little to no facts about a hot topic; New Orleans. It's outrageous enough to make people listen but not outrageous enough to get me fired." |

He is a complete tool and makes "Sport Nation" intolerable to watch, and there's simply no excuse for the ignorant crap he spewed on that radio broadcast.
Still, I seem to remember that NO was leading U.S. in murders per capita at the beginning of the 00s, and after a quick wiki search I found this stat which states that NOLA was topping U.S. in murders per capita in 2010: United States cities by crime rate - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Nevertheless, like others have stated here, there are places in all major cities where you shouldn't wander off to whether you're a local or a tourist, and NO has a very good reputation as a host city of major sports events. |

I've lived in New Orleans and Detroit, and I can tell you from experience (Detroiters here may or may not confirm) with due respect, New Orleans economy is stronger than Detroit. Detroit is also a shrinking pariah, where New Orleans grows.
Here's another problem media can never figure out, New Orleans, the city proper, is a small ancient city built over 300 years ago. The city itself holds 400 thousand plus residents. The suburbs of New Orleans (Metairie, Jefferson, Merraro, Westwego, Mandeville, Kenner, Harahan etc.) are NOT counted in the population numbers of the City. When you draw a circle around the incorporated markets surrounding the city (some are 5 minutes distance from the city) the Greater New Orleans region is about 1.2 million people. For being a major destination for tourist, New Orleans does need an expanded airport and I think the State is looking into that right now. This guy is a crybaby - attention whore. |

If the 9th ward were not part of the City itself, New Orleans would NOT be even in the top 10 in murders. The 9th ward is incapable of generating its own police force and municipalities so the bill failed. If you ever look at a crime map of the City, 2 or 3 neighborhoods account for the majority of crime and murder. |

And I can tell you that even though I've been to some really shady areas in f.e. New York and Washington during night - I'd rather take my chances there than in some parts of Helsinki. |
