Drew Brees Contract Negotiations: Read the CBA!
As is par for the course this offseason, whether we’re discussing the bounty situation (enough with the "gate" thing, people) or the Drew Brees contract negotiations, I believe the Saints fan community is taking too much at face value. A few snippets have come out of the Brees/Condon/NFLPA camp via the national media, and no matter if they’re presented as fact or conjecture, they’re not backed up by the actual documents. So, in the interest of self-education, let’s take a look at what the CBA actually says about the franchise tag. Stop trusting the national media, or even your friends in the Saints blogging community, even if they are sometimes right on the mark. You may learn nothing new from this post. However, instead of taking your information from Jason Cole or Pro Football Talk, why not take it straight from the source?
Here’s the CBA. Please, feel free to follow along after the jump. Drew Brees Contract Negotiations: Read the CBA! - Canal Street Chronicles |

Hey, am I the only one who finds canal street chronicles somewhat annoying? It's like the fake TMZ of the Saints.

TBH this reading is getting old. Either he wants to be here or he doesn't. We'll have to cross this bridge in 3-5 years anyhow.
Go with Chase... |

I did not, will not read the CBA.
I did however read the opinion piece. SaintsWin: Analysis, Examination, Opinion: The Underlying Math of a Brees' Holdout And this guy agrees with me. If a contract cannot be negotiated with Brees, he will sit out this season. He will NOT play under the tag. There is no way Brees is playing again without the security of a long term contract. |

I have said all along Brees will not play under the tag. The Saints better not bungle this there is no reason for it. What is it about cutting off your nose to spite your face. Loomis has brought this on on Himself and he needs to do the right thing. I think he needs to make some cuts to free up the money and not destroy the chemistry and stability Drew has devolped with this team. If anyone here thinks that Chase can take this team to a superbowl this year they are kidding themselves.
