The New Orleans Saints are trying out quarterback Luke McCown during this week's minicamp. McCown, whose eight-year NFL career includes stints in Cleveland, Tampa Bay and Jacksonville, began his workouts Tuesday morning.

"All in all, it was a good morning," he said.

Saints interim head coach Joe Vitt said McCown handled himself well at practice.

"He did a good job today getting guys in and out of the huddle and getting people lined up. "

Vitt said the team is familiar with McCown.

"He's been a thorn in our side," Vitt said. "He beat us in '07 when he was with Tampa Bay. He's got a little bit of knowledge with this system because he was under (Jon) Gruden at Tampa Bay."

McCown agreed that Gruden's system is similar to the one in New Orleans.

While McCown isn't sure what will come of the tryout, he remains optimistic about his chances.

"Any time you're invited, they're saying, 'hey we want to take a look at you and see if what we've heard about you and what we've seen on tape confirms what we see on the field,'" he said. "I think any time you're invited, that's an opportunity. We'll see where it goes from here."

I know he's just a camp arm while Brees is out but I wonder what he can do about competing for a back up spot?

I remember when he beat us in 07

We were leading with 3 minutes to go and Payton called a WR reverse on 3rd down, reggie bush fumbled and the bucs won

Brees will be signed soon!

Did you know...

He was one of the top choices to replace Aaron Brooks. Obviously that was before we obtained Mr. Brees.

I can't attest to his butt, but he might make a good back-up QB for us.

This is an effin joke. Is this organization playing games with Brees by bringing in the Cow? I know its a two way street with Brees and the club coming to terms so I'm not siding with Brees totally, but bringing in another QB is sending a pretty nasty message to Brees and the fans. Just my opinion.

The staff has said for several weeks that they wanted to bring in another arm for these TC's. They even had Pierre Thomas throwing during the last OTA.

This has nothing to do with Drew Brees or his contract at all. Its just another arm for camp.

I took that in account Danno and I agree but just put the shoe on the other foot if you were Brees and think about how he feels about it.
