Do you think the Saints may have been weighing the option of parting ways with Brees?
Do you guys think that one reason the Saints have not been willing to negotiate until now is because they wanted to see what Chase had to offer as a replacement? They have built a solid team around Brees and I think even with a slightly above average QB they could still be contenders if they used the money they would save on Brees to bring in some other high profile players.

Bringing in another QB would involve some rebuilding. Chase throwing passes in practice, or any other QB throwing passes in practice is no where near Brees throwing in a game. Real time, opposing defense coming at you, knowing the subtleties of your o-line and being able to sense when the pocket is collapsing, the ability to change direction and know .... not which receiver to throw to, but where to put the ball because you know that receivers timing is not something you pick up in a week. 4. Also most importantly understand that sometimes "non-negotiation" is a big part of business negotiation... Not talking at all is not because of no interest, its to make the other party sweat. We as fans get all caught up in doing what we think is the right thing to do.... To the player and that teams front office, it is ALL business, and a fight to see who can make the other side flinch. Both sides goal is to squeeze every ounce of value out of that contract that they can. Deadlines create action... Both sides know there is a July 16th, and neither side is prepared to budge until certain obstacles have passed. Biggest hold up right now is not the contract, its the litigation about the Franchise Tender. Relax and let his play out... Only because that is what Drew...and the front office are doing. Thanks Sponsor. I hope you are right. A part of me thinks that the Saints are hoping for a cheap way out. Sort of like when you have been getting a promotional deal and when that expires you have to pay the going price. I do believe if they really thought they could get away with it that they would. There will be an immediate fan reaction storm that they are not going to like at all and they are going to lose a lot of money long term if they don't get this done. They played their odds and they lost. Their best shot was right after 2010 but they chose to let Brees play out his contract and keep getting that entry price. Shows you that no matter how you feel about your employer/team they all look at you as a commodity and are going to do everything they can in every case to take a dollar from you no matter how productive you are.
