NFL turns over evidence - a SLIDESHOW of GW quotes

The evidence the NFL provided to New Orleans Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma on Friday in no way links the player to any "bounty" program, according to his lawyer, Peter Ginsberg.

The league, per rule, had to provide evidence for the basis of its discipline toward four suspended current and former Saints players by Friday since they have appeals hearings before NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell in New York on Monday.

Ginsberg said the majority of the evidence centers around a PowerPoint slideshow of former defensive coordinator Gregg Williams' directives and speeches to players. Ginsberg said there is other evidence besides the slide show, but none of it links Vilma, Will Smith, Scott Fujita or Anthony Hargrove -- all suspended for part or all of the 2012 season by Goodell -- to putting bounties on opposing players.

Think their suspensions will be overturned?

TheOak 06-15-2012 04:14 PM

Too soon to tell...

Let it play out.

I know Payton et al have issued 'apologized' for this, but IF, (I know that is a mighty big if; that is why I capitalized it!), the player suspensions are over-turned, could Payton and others, appeal their suspensions on the grounds that if their isn't enough evidence to suspend the players, how could the coaches be suspended for the same thing?

Doubt is because the Payton was supposed to be Williams superior therefor responsible for his actions, even if he did act alone. The players were his inferiors but if they prove the players did not participate the players have a more likely chance of being let off the hook.

I always thought 50k pages was over the top. Hell how in the world do you get 50000 pages of anything? You could write down every word Willams said throughout the whole season and not fill up 50000pages

Double Space
72 pt font
5x7 cards single sided
glossery
table of contents
a picture of Goodell between each page
...... that would be a good start

Hell! I can make a powerpoint that proves Goodell was the head cheese behind the bounty program.

Really NFL... A Power Point?

Roger Goodell should apologize and abdicate immediately. And he'll owe millions to Vilma!

papz 06-15-2012 06:00 PM

I just want Payton back. Anything else would just be spinkles on my cupcake.

 Now thats funny!!

This is turning out to be such a bunch of bs. The sad thing is, no matter how stupid Godell looks on this, he is going to get away with it.

B005TED 06-15-2012 09:34 PM

Sad thing is you're probably right. :(

This is exactly what I thought ... of course, the rules only said they had to hand over something, not everything. Makes you wonder how seriously the NFL is regarding this matter.

Correct, they do not have to hand over everything they have.. However, they do have to hand over everything they plan to use.

If the NFLPA does not have it right now, it can not be used.

SaintsBro 06-16-2012 09:53 AM

Yeah, it sucks that Payton is basically getting one year because of 2 emails from Michael Ornstein that he didn't even ask for or reply to. Even if he is "guilty" of receiving the emails, or being friends with Ornstein, that is still a pretty raw effin' deal.

Rugby Saint II 06-16-2012 03:58 PM

Really??? That's it? Nothing........

I was always under the assumption that "evidence" should be "originals", or at least faxed originals thus removing any suspicion of tampering.

What the NFL sent was the equivalent of the prosecutor in the OJ Simpson case showing this picture to prove OJ did it.

Faces the jury: " this is all the proof needed to prove OJ did it... See his face on the packaging? How can you question his guilt after seeing this packaging?"

To be fair, that IS pretty compelling packaging ...

I've been doing some research and you're right; I only managed to record 47,576 pages and that was with joined up writing!
