Top pick Smith adjusts
Ohio State product, Devery Henderson get first NFL taste.

METAIRIE (AP) — Will Smith thought his wait on draft day would be shorter than it was, but now he thinks his selection by the New Orleans Saints will make the wait worthwhile.

Smith was considered the best defensive end in last weekend’s NFL draft and was projected by many to go in the first 10 selections. When he was still available at No. 18 for the Saints, he was too good to pass up, even though end wasn’t a primary need for New Orleans, which has two good ends in Darren Howard and Charles Grant.

"I got here, and I saw the equipment and everything," Henderson said during a Friday night media availability at the Saints' training facility. "I'm still in my own little world. I guess it will hit home soon."

Courtney Watson hasn't played a down, but he already has made a quick impression on Saints coaches with his intelligence and maturity.

He's not the biggest or the fastest, the most physically imposing or the most vocal member of the Saints' six-man rookie class. But there's something about the way Watson, the team's second-round draft pick from Notre Dame, carries himself that says he might be special.
