Exclamation Givens Hoping to Be Part of Trend Among Saints Undrafted Free Agents

This offseason, the Saints have been looking at a new crop of undrafted free agents and evaluating their skills through a rookie minicamp, OTA’s and a June minicamp. One player who has impressed the coaching staff in the meeting room and on the field is wide receiver Chris Givens. The 6’2, 203 pound wideout agreed to terms with the team just two days after the 2012 NFL Draft, where his name was not called.

Givens attended Miami University (Ohio) and recorded 157 receptions for 2,121 yards and 15 touchdowns in his five-year career. He missed the 2009 season with a shoulder injury and was granted a medical redshirt. In his redshirt senior campaign, Givens was able to register 57 catches for 1,118 yards and 11 touchdowns. The former Redhawk now ranks seventh in Miami record books in both catches and yardage.

I read several reports that he looked great during OTA's.

If he makes the team he will definitely have earned it.

I just hate losing other quality WRs to the waiver wire because of roster constraints.

Who was he gonna put on the bench? Colston? Moore? Henderson? Meachem?

He was a victim of the talent we have in front of him and the fact that he's not a good special teams guy, which your 4th/5th WR must be to even get activated in this league.

Agree 100%. I have said it before, his inability to play special teams will be his downfall with us. We have Joe Morgan and now Chris Givens (if he makes it) that can play special teams. AA is a goner.

Pretty sure EVERY name on that list has been hurt ALOT. He had plenty of chances now its time to part ways.

Henderson - Hasn't missed a game in 5 years
Meachem - Hasn't missed a game in 3 years
Colston - Missed only 3 games in the last 3 years
Moore - Missed 2 games the last 2 years (plus he plays the slot, which isn't AA's position)

Not sure "ALOT" applies to any WR in front of Meachem. SELDOM is probably a better choice of words.
