2004 NFL Draft Review

San Diego- Well, let’s see…first, they pick a player they don’t want (Manning) and pass on a top 5 player (Gallery) who plays a position of need for their team. Then they trade for a player that they passed on (Rivers), who is less talented, to pick up an extra pick in the third round of this draft then select a kicker! Now unless the snapper and holder come in a package deal, you have no idea if this kid will be a bust or not. Finally in the 7th round, somebody says, ‘You know, we still don’t have an offensive line’, so they pick two boys that will have a difficult time making any NFL roster -- except maybe the Chargers. Thank the Lord they picked Hardwick (Center) from Purdue. At least he will stand and fight. So let’s add this up. A tall, short-armed QB to balance out the short, short-armed QB’s and an offensive center. Let me tell you something Charger fans, when your team’s focus in the draft is picking a kicker, it means you don’t expect to score a lot of TD’s and your GM and coach will be looking very shortly for another job.

Oakland- Stood firm and picked a top 5 player (Gallery) at a need position. That’s just so silly. How could they do such a thing? I bet the next thing they’ll do is something dumb like pick-up a QB in Free Agency and make their team really good. It really drives me nuts when teams try to improve themselves in the draft and pick impact players at need positions. (Duh)
