Saints coach Sean Payton, wife file for divorce

New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton has filed for divorce from his wife, Beth, according to a petition from Tarrant County, Texas on June 14. The divorce filings appear to be written so as to avoid making the Paytons' identities public. They describe two residents of Tarrant County with the initials of Payton (PSP) and his wife (BAP), the date that the Paytons were married, and the birth dates of the couple's two children. The computer file containing the petition has the word "Payton" as part of its name.

The petition lists the grounds for divorce as "discord or conflict of personalities between Petitioner and Respondent that destroys the legitimate ends of the marriage relationship and prevents any reasonable expectation of reconciliation."

Wow. Too bad.

JimmyB1775 07-02-2012 05:36 PM

Any chance RG has email evidence that could destroy the marriage? Could explain why Vitt spoke up and Payton didn't.

CharityMike 07-02-2012 05:36 PM

Well..that makes sense out of the whole Dallas thing.

QBREES9 07-02-2012 05:59 PM

That's to bad. Beth is hot too.

voodooido 07-02-2012 06:12 PM

Been there done that. Give the man space. Next...

SmashMouth 07-02-2012 06:20 PM

Yeah...that's too bad... All the best to both.

B_Dub_Saint 07-02-2012 06:22 PM

That sucks. Bad year for him!!!

TheOak 07-02-2012 06:50 PM

How drunk is he about now?

Think he tried to Franchise Tag her her?

Maybe he traded her for a draft pick?

73Saint 07-02-2012 07:20 PM

She's going to get a lot of $$. Wonder how the giant house purchase they just made is going to go.

Speedy Ron 07-02-2012 08:00 PM

This poor guy has had a terrible year.

saintsfan1976 07-02-2012 08:08 PM

Let's see...

New city, new team, success, fame, fortune.

Did someone stray? i wouldn't have any problem believing it.

The move to Dallas was probably a last shot at saving their marriage.

Selfishly, I hope our coach can return to his coaching form.

jlouhill 07-02-2012 08:26 PM

I don't wish the things that have happened to SP on anyone. Makes for a tough year. But in retrospect, maybe the suspension is a blessing in disguise. He may not have been all there this year anyway with this hanging over his head. He now has a year to concentrate on these family matters and hopefully by next spring things will have settled down to some degree and he can return ready to go. I wish the best for both of them.

Luda34 07-02-2012 08:45 PM

Damn my boy is having a F up year.

QBREES9 07-02-2012 08:51 PM

and she get half. I guess she didn't like him sleeping with the Super Bowl Trophy

Ashley 07-02-2012 08:58 PM

That sucks, been down that road.

pherein 07-02-2012 09:03 PM

Kind of tacky posting it on the NFL site after they both hand wrote it to remain anonymous on the 26th.

QBREES9 07-02-2012 09:15 PM

Dam Media !!!

foreverfan 07-02-2012 09:21 PM

Didn't see that one coming. In any case, it's cheaper to rent than to buy.

Srgt. Hulka 07-02-2012 09:26 PM

Well damn.... I hate that for Sean and his wife. Especially hate it for the kids.

More distractions for the team.

SmashMouth 07-02-2012 09:57 PM

But he is home more now .....!?!?!?

pherein 07-02-2012 11:00 PM

You know sometimes other fans just get it, and this is so tacky for the NFL to post this as top news.
Its so obvious they are picking on Payton.

Sucks for him, but I tend to look at the positive. More time for him to focus on the Saints.

TheOak 07-03-2012 09:56 AM

If it helps the context is important... HE filed for divorce, not the other way around. While its not a joyous time for him, we do not have to worry about our coach wishing he had his wife back.

I am sure Favre can share some cheerleader numbers with him... Oh wait... They would have to be NBA cheer leaders...

RaginCajun83 07-03-2012 02:24 PM

Whatever makes him happy, hope him and the rest of the family best of luck

TheOak 07-03-2012 03:04 PM

Poor man has to feel like the only guy on Mars right now.... The two things that compose his life NFL and Family and off limits this year.

Time for a Sopranos marathon, gallon of Jim Beam, and a carton of Winstons...

Not to mention his financial adviser imploding since he looses 4+ mil of salary and 1/2 of everything this year.

Will he have to pay her based on this years salary or last? Big difference.

Rugby Saint II 07-03-2012 03:22 PM

Damn......0 for 2!

Speedy Ron 07-03-2012 04:10 PM

truthfully...it couldnt come at a better time. at least this wont be a distraction for him coaching. sad but true

skymike 07-03-2012 04:20 PM

Last time I got a divorce, it was really a happy thing, except I went broke.

I think SP will be ok. He can afford a good lawyer, who'll set something up so he doesnt get cleaned out. He should come to Houston and let me show him all the bad places.

Best of luck, Coach. You're invited to our next Hou-Dats gathering. I think we'll be boiling crabs for the HOF game. (Yes the HOF game. Im in the mood for a party.) We wont tell the NFL you came and saw us. OUr secret.

xan 07-03-2012 10:01 PM

No worse feeling. Sorry SP.

He skymike, why is divorce so expensive?

OldMaid 07-03-2012 10:20 PM

I just opened yahoo home page and what it there....this
Sean Payton
...so here I am knowing this thread was up and alive.
WoW!!!!
I cannot say I am surprised because the whole moving to Dallas with him commuting during at times....ehhhhhh, seemed strange then. Yeah, if this was the place they wanted to settled after football or his his coaching plans, but it seeemd odd then.
Next bombshell to drop is what is the little sweetart's name , the third party...
Hopefully, he and the Mrs. will make it private, no dirt fest, give the Mrs what she wants, fair for both of them, better for their young children, and hopefully there is no little sweetart involved.

Ohhhhhh gosh :( this news is so sad.
What is happening to OUR SAINTS:bng: on and off the field.
When down, you have to bounce back up. There is no other place to go but up.
The Saints need to get going on football..sign sign, get going.
:bng:

CheramieIII 07-04-2012 07:58 AM

I guess he really did want to be here because she's getting the house in Westlake. Hey Coach get you a Louisiana woman, she can cook, drink, loves football, has a bass boat, 9 teeth and all her fingers, for those lonely nights gigging frogs.

Hey Xan been divorced twice so far and it's really expensive either you give her all the stuff and pay all the bills or you hire an attorney that charges you everything to get nothing.

Crusader 07-04-2012 08:10 AM

Sad thing. Hope they still are able to finds some happiness and most of all that the kids are allright.

SloMotion 07-04-2012 08:25 AM

... seeing that on Yahoo or wherever doesn't surprise me that much, but on the front page of NFL.com? ... bad form, amatuer & bush-league ... I will say, though, things eventually work themselves out and you eventually begin to see the light of day ... hang in there,.

They get half of everything. Lawyer aren't cheap. If the man is dropping the women she pissed. Plus I hope to never find out.

mutineer10 07-04-2012 11:22 AM

No doubt a divorce is stressful, even when you're the one who filed. I wish Coach Payton all the best ... he's a tough guy, he'll get through it.

skymike 07-04-2012 05:46 PM

Xan, you've never been divorced, I take it. ha!
Yeah, if you're the man, you'd better spend the bucks on a bigshot lawyer, or you'll spend years rebuilding. Courts are not kind to men, UNLESS the woman
is found to be the cheater.

Sabrina, i saw that yahoo ad, but i didnt want to anger everyone here after seeing the hateful comments at the bottom.

ChrisXVI 07-04-2012 07:50 PM

Did Sean walk under a ladder or something??
