Following Delhomme's footsteps

J.T. O'Sullivan's career path has mirrored the development of Carolina Panthers Jake Delhomme.

The play of Frankfurt's New Orleans Saints allocated quarterback J.T. O'Sullivan has been somewhat overlooked among the strong performances by his team's pair of outstanding running backs, and over shadowed at his own position by Berlin's Rohan Davey.

However, the Galaxy passer has quietly been lighting up Europe with his own play, and he has continued to draw praise from NFL Europe coaches as well as the NFL scouts he impressed while in training camp in Tampa, Florida. Although he has received relatively little attention, he finds himself as the NFLEL's second-leading passer through five games, and he leads all quarterback with just one interception.

O'Sullivan was a sixth-round draft choice of the Saints in 2002, and after sitting on the bench for the past two NFL seasons he made it clear to Saints coaches that he wanted to come to Europe to get some playing time. Having seen the progress of Jake Delhomme, another Saints quarterback who was an NFLEL alumni, nobody in New Orleans was going to argue with O'Sullivan on the matter.

Following Delhomme's footsteps

I\'ve been studing the Panthers run to the superbowl. I\'ve looked at their offense, defense, special teams, and Jake Delhomme. I found some interesting things.

Jake and the Panthers had a very interesting season and it went something like this:

J. Delhomme 12/20 122 3 2 vs. Jags
Jake is put in for Rodney Peete and engineers a comback victory. Jake complets only 12 pass but for 3tds and 2ints. Carolina wins 24-23.

J. Delhomme 9/23 96 0 2 vs. Tampa
Jake completes only 9 passes for 0-TD\'s and 2ints. Carolina wins despite Delhomme\'s terrible day. 12-9

J. Delhomme 17/27 168 1 0 vs. Falcons
Jake completes 17 passes for 1td and no 0-ints. Carlonia defense holds falcons to 3 points. Carolina wins 23-3.

J. Delhomme 15/23 124 0 0 vs. Saints
Jake completes only 15 passes for 124 yards and no TD\'s. Carolina defense holds Saints to 13 points. Panthers win 19-13.

J. Delhomme 12/20 181 1 1 vs. Colts
Jake completes a mere 12 passes all day long for one TD and one Int. Despite this Panthers beat Colts 23-20

J. Delhomme 13/23 193 1 1 vs. Texans
Jake completes a mere 13 passes for 1TD and 0 ints. However, the Texans win this game 14-10.

J. Delhomme 12/27 148 0 0 vs. Saints
Jake completes a mere 12 passes again for no TD\'s and no ints. Despite this Panthers win again 23-20.

J. Delhomme 31/49 362 2 0 vs. Titans
Jake finally has a good game. Completes 31 passes for 2TDs and no Ints. However Panthers lose - 37-17.

J. Delhomme 20/32 277 2 2 vs. Tampa
Jake complets 20 passes. Throws 2 TD\'s but also throws 2ints. Yet, the Panthers win 27-24.

J. Delhomme 9/24 175 1 1 vs. Cowboys
Jake completes only 9 passes yet again. But out of those 9, he threw 1TD and 1int. Panthers lose 24-20.

J. Delhomme 18/29 216 2 0 vs. Eagles
Jake has a good game. Completes 18 of 29 passes for 2TD\'s and no ints. But, Eagles win 25-16.

J. Delhomme 20/30 317 0 2 vs. Redskins
Jake has another bad day. Completes 20 of 30 for no TD\'s and 2ints. Despite the int\'s, Panthers win 20-17.

J. Delhomme 13/25 153 1 2 vs. Falcons
Jake has another terrible day. Completes only 13 passes yet again for 1-Td and 2-ints. Score a win for the falcons 20-14.

J. Delhomme 20/32 236 1 1 vs. Arizona
Jake squares off against the Arizona defense and completes 20 passes for 1Td and 1int. Panthers win 20-17.

J. Delhomme 29/35 260 2 1 vs. Lions
One of Jakes better days. Completes 29 passes for 2Td\'s and 1int. Panthers beat Lions 20-14.

J. Delhomme 16/30 191 2 1 vs. Giants
One of Jakes better games. Completes 16 passes for 2td\'s and 1int. Panthers win 37-24.

Jake\'s success doesn\'t bother me. The Panthers success bothers me. They are our division rivial. So, Jake can have all the individual success he wants, as long as the Panthers lose -- it won\'t bother me.

I think Jake gets more credit for the Panthers success than he deserves. At least from the fans from Louisiana. Jake is a decent QB. IMO, Jake played very poorly in the regular season.

To Jake\'s credit, he picked it up in the playoffs. I think Jake is going to have to take it to the next level if the Panters are gonna come close to having the success they had last year.

I was talking about O\'Sullivan a few weeks ago. The guy looked very good in the games I saw him play in. I think he could be the Saints future starter. (or some other Super Bowl team\'s starter )

In any case, we\'re definitely OK at the QB position.

I saw O\'Sullivan in two games and he looked good in both of them, like the leader of the team.
When does his contract expire?
