Man, it sure is good to be king
And the NFL — don’t kid yourself for a second — is certainly King Roger Goodell’s kingdom, newly negotiated CBA or not. With the ol' 4 p.m. on a holiday "weekend" press release informing media that the player discipline in the Saints bounty matter has been upheld, it’s hard not to respond with one word and one word only: "Duh." Was there ever any other possibility? Roger Goodell proves he's king of NFL with his decree against the New Orleans Saints appeal - NFL News | FOX Sports on MSN Last edited by Halo; 07-08-2012 at 03:59 AM.. |

I've never heard of this writer before, but that was a pathetic article. I couldn't tell if he was for or against Goodell until the end when he suggests the league is doing great and only getting better.... Unbelievable.
The league was doing great before he got there, and any raise in popularity since then has nothing to do with him. It's just a matter of an ever growing population in a country that loves football more than any other sport. It comes natural for the NFL. But the game itself, the quality of it, is most certainly getting worse. There are more stupid rules than anyone can keep up with anymore, and defense is becoming all but obsolete. And the last thing I take issue with in this article is him saying that anything unclean will be eradicated. Really? This guy has absolutely no idea, no pulse whatsoever of what's going on. This is what Roger wants people to believe, as many of us have said over and over. But if it were actually true that he just wanted to clean up the game, there would be so many suspensions handed down league wide that it would be hard to even have a season. This writer didn't even attempt to look at this objectively. |
If I had a nickel for every time I heard that, the NFL would fine and suspend me.

Yeah and stating the obvious like he's on to something. Releasing news where you want to minimize coverage has always been done on a Friday or eve before a holiday, it's a tactic used since Vietnam. We are quite aware of this fact. Thing is, it doesn't work anymore. The top three stories on yahoo NFL are Saints related.
This is not over. RG's biggest concern right now is if a judge rules that the NFL broke enough CBA guidelines to warrant a do-over. He may even decide to put on hold the suspensions until a verdict is reached. NFL revenue has nothing to do with it. If a judge says do-over the owners are going to have to start seriously thinking about a new commish. You can't have someone in that positon making those kinds of epic mistakes. |

Not sure what the owners were thinking when they selected him. Unlike Tagliabue, RG didn't play college sports, has no law bakground, no gift of gab, and no strong political push like Jeb Bush who was their first choice but turned it down.

No need to read into anymore of the articles for me. What has been handed down stays. AND Roger will stay on top.

AMERICA STILL NOT FREE OF ONE TYRANT
As written this morning, this was a pretty scathing criticism of Roger Goodell and his tyranny.
Obviously the NFL got hold of Fox Sports and threatened to limit their access if they didn't fix that article. MSN.com homepage featured a headline for Sports: AMERICA STILL NOT FREE OF ONE TYRANT With Goodell's big fat mug on the front page. By noon the NFL saw it and threatened the editorial rights of Fox Sports and the article was taken down. |
