this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Regardless of what some think, coaches don\'t always tell the truth. Being a coach is kinda like being a politician. More often than not, they just try to say something that can\'t be used against them. Didn\'t you POUND me, ...

McCarthy's Spread Offense
We never suggested that Haslett lied? You really want me to find where I said Haslett lied and you said he didn\'t? Does the AB/Delhomme injury debate ring a bell? Give me a break Billy. You\'re now saying \"Regardless of what some think, coaches don\'t always tell the truth.\" No sh!t Sherlock - we\'ve been telling you that for a year. Glad you figured it out though - and it was a very original thought I might add. LOL.
Sometimes you amaze me Billy, really man. Your selective memory is the best I\'ve ever seen. :P |

McCarthy's Spread Offense
Sure you said he lied. Never said you, gator, or 08 didn\'t say that. What I said is that ALL coaches LIE!! They are like politicians. They don\'t want to say something that will come back and bit them in the butt.
Your problem, WhoDat, is you want to make it sound like Haslett is the ONLY coach that lies. Question, WhoDat.... Is there any coach in the league that doesn\'t lie??? |

Yes, probably. There are certainly coaches who spin - every coach does that. And there are coaches who believe things that turn out to be untrue. But I don\'t think a lot of coaches go out and say in the media that a player they know to be injured is in fact not injured.

McCarthy's Spread Offense
They lie if they think it helps their team. In Haslett\'s case the lie backfired badly and he apparently didn\'t feel like he could backtrack. I\'m sure that cost him a ot of respect, not just among media people, but also around the league and in the Saints lockerroom. It was dumb to keep Aaron in, it was dumb to lie about the injury after the season had ended and it would be dumb if he hadn\'t learned something from that experience. |

McCarthy's Spread Offense
Haslett said on 4th down on 4 on 05/16/04 two different times that they would run their offense out of spread formations more often this year.
After the Patriots/Colts playoff game this past year where the Patriots DBs mugged the Colts receivers the entire game the league said they intend on calling interference and/or holding more often when these tactics are used. This favors the passing game and is even more reason to spread the defense out to create mismatches in one on one situations. |
