Help me understand this
this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; So if Brees does not sign by the 16th then he cannot sign a long term contract and can only sign the franchise tag? If this is the case what would be the point of him sitting out? I could ...

Help me understand this
So if Brees does not sign by the 16th then he cannot sign a long term contract and can only sign the franchise tag? If this is the case what would be the point of him sitting out? I could see him sitting out unless he got the contract he wanted but if the rules say he cannot sign a contract after the July 16th deadline what leverage would holding out have?
