Tag. He's already been offered a contract to make him the highest paid player in the NFL. He turned it down. Of course, there was really no reason for him to not try and get more.

Judging contract "value to a player" based on total dollar amount is a very simplistic way to look at it...
He could be offered $500M and if he had a career ending injury in the first game this season, he gets one games worth.... This stagnation in the negotiations is about guaranteed money... Guaranteed money is not something Drew thought up on his own, he is not pioneering this way to write a contract... He is not trying to screw someone over.. Some-other dumb-ass team didnt want to lose a player so they told him.. "well yea they are offering you a little more than we are, but ours is guaranteed".... I do not think loading is even a discussion anymore due to the salary cap... I do not believe in guaranteed money, but it is what someone else made it when they set that precedent. |

I've had an eerie feeling ever since Sean made the statement that he would be "more than stunned" if Drew was not signed. My head tells me the deal will get done, but my intuition is telling me there is no chance of it getting done. Maybe next year?

He will sign long term. The Saints can not afford him at the tag price. So lets see, the Saints can pay him 20.5 mil or almost 24 mil. And even more then 24 mil next year. Give the man 20.5 over 5 years already. Crap what choice do they have?
