Thumbs up Saints Questions: Who will replace Robert Meachem?

Toon, as the team’s fourth-round pick, is likely to find his way onto the roster. He’s 6-foot-2, 215 pounds and impressed during Organized Team Activities and minicamp. He’s the son of former NFL standout Al Toon and understands the game and the demands of professional football.

In fact, Toon could become the perfect receiving complement to Marques Colston – a big-sized receiver who catches the ball well in traffic. Coaches were effusive in their praise of the rookie during minicamp; the question for him will be how does he do with pads on?

Meachem's role was kind of one-dimensional and Nick Toon is more of a solid possession receiver that runs sharp routes. I don't think the two would play the same role. If anybody took Meachem's role it would probably be Joe Morgan. I could be totally wrong but that's just what popped into my head when I read the topic.

I agree yet disagree.

I don't think Meachem's role was one-dimensional at all. I think he was a pretty well rounded WR, just under-utilized due to the style of offense we ran.

But I do agree that Joe Morgan is the "next man up" so to speak. He has shown he has the talent, now he just needs to show durability, consistency, continued development and improvement in the little things that separate potential from productivity.

I personally think Joe is our next Lance Moore type WR, but on the outside instead of the slot.

In single set WR formations, Meachem was the main receiver on the field. Not only because he was our best bet of getting behind defenders, he was considered our best blocking WR.

He was not one dimensional.
