Other than Trotter and this McKenzie debacle - anyone have any idea A) who might become available after June 1, and B) who the Saints might be interested in? I know what our needs are, just don't know who might be out there and realistically who they are targeting (as compared to who we HOPE they will target). Any word?

For what it\'s worth...... Heard Haz say yesterday that he didn\'t anticipate any significant signings. He did say they were interested in McKenzie but he didn\'t think the Packers were really interested in trading him and the price would have to be right if they did.
I don\'t know of any cornerbacks that are going to be cut that are any better than what we got. So, I expect that we are going to go with who we got. I keep hearing these guys in the media saying they expect Haz to pick up a CB, but I don\'t see it happening. I think we got the team we are going to put on the field. |

Hey guys,I just read an article that said Ronde Barber may be on the outs in Tampa. They want him to take a pay cut because they believe his salary is to high. The article said if he doesn\'t agree, then the Bucs may be looking to get rid of him. With the team being mostly overhauled in the off season,he may just be happy with another team. It also said his first choice would probably be the Giants because he would be reunited with his brother Tiki, but that the Saints who are in need of a cover corner may be able to use the fact that they play Tampa twice a year to entice him to play for the black and gold.

the read between my lines, haslett? i\'d take everything haz says with a grain of salt........ there\'s more truth to what the media says then what\'ll you hear from the saints office. azzes are on the line this yr........no bout adoubt it............ they have a good nucleus to run with this time, and they know they\'ll be fools not to build on it before the opening kickoff............. a player here, a player there............a playoff spot..............a few believers..... of course i thought they were lying last yr when they said this is the defense we\'ll go with. the one time i actually believed they were lying, they told the truth........ and this is my team........................give me strength lord.........swamee |

I wondering if R. Barber would be the better target. I SEEMS that he doesn\'t have the attitude , has extensive knowledge of the Tampa program. I don\'t think he is that old, I think he just turned 29. I guess its the money they want is the determining factor.

A McKenzie deal of some sort involving a pick, picks, player, or player(s) and pick(s) would seem to be the most logical. The Saints are deep at defensive line and could use one of the reserve players along with a pick to the Packers to make a deal. The Packers are in need of DL help. While a deal may make sense for both clubs, the key to is what is it going to take to make McKenzie happy. He wants a new deal that involves big bucks. Having one year remaining on his current deal, he is not in the best position to renogotiate with his current team. If he chooses to sit out, he would lose his salary for this year and the Packers would still own the rights to his services for an additional year. That would be a bad descision on the players part as recovering millions of dollars in lost salary would be difficult and being away from the game for a full year would take away from his future market value. Also, other teams would then be skittish knowing he may do the same to them. This is a player who already carries some stigma in that he has had five agents in five years. Don\'t look for the Packers to cut him June 1st, but as time moves closer to the regular season they may be willing to part with him for less than the number one pick they have set the price for at this point.
Another defensive back that will most likely be available is Zach Bronson. The 49ers will cut him June 1st. He is an experienced player, having been in the league for 8 years, has good size at 6\'1\", 201 pounds, and is a former McNeese State Cowboy. He may not fit what the Saints are looking for but he will be available. |

Don\'t worry guys. If the Saints do sign someone after June 1st, you know they\'ll find a great way to screw it up. It\'ll probably be someone like Jesse Palmer. Then him and his television fling can move down here, she can finish school at LSU, and end up working at a strip club on Bourbon St., strung out on smack, and Jesse becomes her pimp after not being able to find employment when Haslett cuts him for being a locker room cancer when he accuses Sedrick Hodge of knocking him up. End of list.
