Pay-Ton Effect
Pat Kirwan of NFL.COM recently wrote an article on what effects the huge deal Peyton Manning recently signed will have on the salary cap of teams trying to keep their franchise player in the fold.
"The other quarterbacks around the league--Donavan McNabb(Eagles), Daunte Culpepper(Vikings), Trent Green(Chiefs), and Aaron Brooks(Saints)--are all tied up in contracts that should prevent them from being in this first wave of responses to the Manning deal." For more click on the link below: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/7355263 Does this mean that we tied Brooks up to a long term contract at the right time? I think so. However, should he play to the level of his capabilities as we would all hope, he would soon be in a position to want to renegotiate his contract at crazy numbers. The Saints need to tie up Deuce McAllister long term now while it is still possible to keep the core of this team. This is another example of why this is the time for this team to take it to the next level while we can still afford to keep our top players. |
