Pay-Ton Effect

Pat Kirwan of NFL.COM recently wrote an article on what effects the huge deal Peyton Manning recently signed will have on the salary cap of teams trying to keep their franchise player in the fold.

"The other quarterbacks around the league--Donavan McNabb(Eagles), Daunte Culpepper(Vikings), Trent Green(Chiefs), and Aaron Brooks(Saints)--are all tied up in contracts that should prevent them from being in this first wave of responses to the Manning deal."

Does this mean that we tied Brooks up to a long term contract at the right time? I think so. However, should he play to the level of his capabilities as we would all hope, he would soon be in a position to want to renegotiate his contract at crazy numbers. The Saints need to tie up Deuce McAllister long term now while it is still possible to keep the core of this team.

This is another example of why this is the time for this team to take it to the next level while we can still afford to keep our top players.

Pay-Ton Effect

SaintNik --

Man, I\'m glad you brought this to light.

I\'m not going to call anyone out on this issue. You know who you are. But, Brooks\' salary has been criticized mightly. I\'ve often disagreed with most folks on this issue.

Some say Brooks didn\'t deserve his pay because he hadn\'t proven to be worth it.

Well, in the NFL most players are paid on potential. Just look at what some of these rookies (Eil Manning) will be paid -- on nothing but potential this year. Most of these people that are criticising Brooks know this though. They just need something to ***** about. :P

Something else, these people that have criticised Brooks\' deal don\'t look very far down the road. But, then again, they didn\'t want to see anything but an opportunity to bash Brooks.

It now seems as though this was a very wise move by the Saints.

As far as Payton goes. If anyone\'s worth it, it\'s Payton. If Brooks is able to match Paytons production, then who knows what will happen. I would suspect we should have a bunch of folks screaming for Brooks to get equal pay since he\'s one of the top QB\'s in the league. But, we know a snowball has a better chance in HELL --
