I know that your first response is that people are a lot faster in the NFL, but others have met the challenge and continued to excel in the pros.
I am only wondering out loud because it is curious that someone who had such success in college would struggle so in the pros.
Aside from the injuries, I think part of it is the offensive scheme he played in at NO in that he was as much of a pass receiver as a running back ... and when you got a QB like Drew, that's just the way it is.
Look at his first year with MIA ... who's their QB? Henning? Moore? Who's the other running backs? He's not sharing the load and gets twice as many carries as in NO, a lot fewer passes, so he busts out a 1000yd+ season ... plus he stayed healthy all season ... it's one of those 'right place/right time' deals for him & I think he's going to have some good seasons with MIA.
