"I always wanted everyone to like me. I wanted the city of Pittsburgh to be proud of me. But my first few seasons, I used to count the number of people on my bandwagon on one finger. I had people call me a dummy and a hick. I had a lady stop me outside the stadium and tell me I stunk. I heard the people cheer when I got hurt. Rub up against enough briar patches and your hide will get pretty tough. Mine did."

Perhaps no Steelers player has ever had more of a "love-hate" relationship with fans than Terry Bradshaw. Terry was booed vigorously by fickle fans in Pittsburgh for the 1st five years of his career... funny, nobody is booing now. 4 Super Bowl Titles, 2 Super Bowl MVPs, 2 Team MVPs, 1 League MVP, and numerous Pro Bowl appearances ulitmately silenced Terry's critics. But Bradshaw, who is unquestionably one of the greatest Steelers of all time, has not returned to Pittsburgh since his retirement in the preseason of 1984. The reason is simple... for Terry, the echos of the boos still linger.
When I hear some of the things said about Aaron Brooks, I often recall how Terry Bradshaw remembers his first 5 years in Pittsburgh. Bradshaw was blamed for all the short-comings of his TEAM. He was booed at every turn. The fans booed when he got injured. He was called a dumb QB.

It sounds exactly like what fans are saying about Brooks. Seems Bradshaw still hasn't really forgiven some of the fans for the horrible way he was treated.

I wonder who will get the the last laugh? Regardless of how it ends up, Brooks has been treated unfairly....

Man, I\'m with you on this. Brooks takes too much crap. It is one thing to critique and another to be ready to go tar and feather a guy. I still am critical of Brooks, but because I know he can become a great QB. BUT they have to win (maybe not 4 Super Bowls) for him to get the respect he may deserve. Potential is nice, but results are what count.

I think in our modern world of quick pleasure, if our team doesn\'t make the playoffs every year, we expect heads to roll. So most teams have no real continuity. Most teams seem to be always too busy re-building.

Heck, i\'ve been a Saints fan long enough to be proud of the team we have right now. Yes, they\'re not perfect. Yes, they are underachieving, and need criticism for that, but at least almost every game we play, i watch it knowing we have a chance to beat the other team (at least at the beginning of the game . I couldn\'t have said that this confidently before.

I\'d take Brooks over Bobby Hebert (who had lots of heart), Bill bob Bubba Joe, or whoever we\'ve had in recent memory. (Too young for the Archie Manning era)

BUT he and the TEAM need to win. It\'s that simple...you want respect, you earn it. I hope

I rolled my eyes when I saw this thread Billy. I knew exactly what it would say. It said exactly what I thought. Billy - as one of AB\'s bigger critics to date, if he goes on to the type of career that Bradshaw had, I\'ll buy you a car. Hang on, my eyeballs got stuck in the back of my head... it\'ll take a few minutes for my vision to readjust.

WhoDat --

Being the highly intelligent person you are, I think you see what I\'m trying to say here. It has nothing to do with what Brooks MIGHT go on to do.

It has to do with what he\'s had to put up with from the fans.

MOST of it has been completely unwarranted.

When fans start calling Brooks stupid and questioning his desire to win then fans have crossed that line. Fact is, they really have no idea. Just like in Bradshaws case.

Then there\'s the matter of booing Brooks when he got injured. They crossed the line once again.

Bradshaw struggled for 5 years. He got booed for 5-years.

Now, I think even you have to admit Brooks has been treated unfairly.

I know it\'s hard to admit folks have been WAY too impatient with Brooks. But, IMHO, that is the case.

What kind of car?? LMAO!!

I don\'t think it has been. And excuse me if I don\'t shed any tears for a guy who makes $36M to be a top 5 QB in this league and then has to hear about it after NOT ranking in the top 5.

It is warranted. And PS - Brooks is stupid and I question his desire to win.

36 million for Aaron Brooks is a bargain in today\'s market WhoDat.

Brooks isn\'t in the top 5 salaries for QB\'s either. You can now stop using that as an arugement to end all discussion...

McNabb\'s Contract = 12-year $115 million $13.5 million signing bonus (But the three \"voidable\" years in the McNabb contract total between $43 million and $45 million.) So actually, he will make far less than the contract would suggest.

So the actual McNabb contract is 9 years $70 million $13.5 million signing bonus

Manning\'s Contract = 7 years $99.2 million $34.5 million signing bonus!!!! (These numbers include 2 voidable years already)

Do the math:

McNabb + 3 NFC Championship games + ZERO WRs = $13.5 million up front, average $7.7 million per season.

Manning + 1 AFC Championship games + Best WR in football (maybe) = $34.5 million up front, average $14 million per season.

The differnce is a whooping DOUBLE the yearly average salary, and nearly TRIPLE the signing bonus in favor of Manning over McNabb.

I am still going to say Manning is way OVERPAID!

And you think Brooks is over paid? Really?

Whodat...you make it seem like Brooks is making \"superstar\" money. The guy is getting paid as a \"better than average\" quarterback and he is doing just that. He is not the reason the Saints havent been winning. I know he could have done better, i know there is no excuse for the fumbles, but the guy does want to win and he has made great strides in becoming a better player. It is always easy to blame the quarterback for a team\'s struggles, but that doesnt fit in here. He was a fourth round pick that came from nowhere, won a playoff game in New Orleans (which no one else has done) and he filled our heads with great expectations. He had a three to one TD to INT ratio last year and that is phenominal. If he had a defense in any of the last three years, this team would have been in the playoffs but when you have to score 30 to win every game, it puts a little added pressure on the QB dont you think?

Aaaaaayyyyyy!!

Brooks was one blown call (versus carolina) and one perfectly thrown dropped pass (TB) from leading us into the playoffs. He was as good as any QB down the stretch and our defense was getting healthy and jelling.
Everyone would then be screaming Archie who?

Every Steeler highlight I\'ve seen shows Swan and Stallworth making a miraculous catch of a very poorly thrown ball.

Bradshaw was over-rated. He was Jake without hair!

Eh, no. Jake doesn\'t have nowhere near the arm strength that Bradshaw has. When he was in college, my father, who was a big baseball fan, would go and watch the Bulldogs play, and he would see Terry hanging out with the team, throwing the ball around. He said on several occasions that he threw the ball with such velocity, that the catcher would violently remove his mit after making a catch, and dance around in obvious pain. But it wouldn\'t suprise me that Jake would have the edge in intelligence.

Are you kidding BnB?! Terry Bradshaw was poo! Aaron Brooks, now there\'s a real QB. If only the fans would stop picking on the poor Brooks. I mean really, he\'s the only reason the Saints have won a game in 4 years! Yeah, even when he was on the bench and Blake was starting, Brooks still did it all! ALL I say!!! And those fumbles wouldn\'t have been a problem if one of those other guys had jumped on the ball.
