Rumor Whirlwind

This week the rumors involving Green Bay Packer cornerback Mike McKenzie are still flying. According to most sources it appears to be a two team race between Dallas and New Orleans. Over the coming month it should be settled who gets the corner. The Packers are currently asking for a first and fifth round pick for McKenzie, but that price will likely drop as training camp approaches.

Another rumor that has risen up, but is unconfirmed as of now, is a possible deal between the New Orleans Saints and Pittsburgh Steelers. The deal would result in the Saints trading receiver Joe Horn to Pittsburgh for Plaxico Burress and a possible draft pick. While at first the trade seems a bit odd, the move would help both teams and give each player a change of scenery. Recently Burress has alienated himself by skipping various off-season training programs and mini camps, while giving less than convincing excuses as to why. Horn on the other hand, has recently become a vocal opponent of the coaching staff and head coach Jim Haslett at times, and sources are reporting that his outbursts are beginning to put him on thin ice. The trade would give the Steelers another proven wide receiver that is able to help ignite an offense that sputters at times. For the Saints it would bring the team another young wide receiver to play along-side Devery Henderson and Donte Stallworth, giving the Saints a very young and explosive receiving core.

I also do not think that Burress is in any way comparable to Joe Horn\'s ability. Used properly, Burress is a weapon that can be difficult to defend. They only way I could appreciate this type of trade is if the draft choice is quite high, no worse than a second round pick. If we could parlay the deal for Horn into Burress and McKenzie from the packers, then I can see the validity of this move since we are so deep at WR.

I agree with Lumm0x on this one.

There just seem to be too many ifs on this one. IF Burress can return to form from two years ago and continue to develop in that vein. IF Stallworth steps up... IF Henderson is as explosive as billed... and IF Gardner or Crowell can come through, we would be VERY dangerous for a LONG time. But that\'s a lot of IFs.

Sounds to me like a rumor started on a Steeler\'s web site.

You don\'t think a forum rumor would ever make its way around do you?

I liked Plaxico better when his name was Albert Connell.
