this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; If they bring in someone from the outside after preseason, that person would be nothing more than a puppet....

Agree, things will likely be shaky at first. I look at it like this, if a Col or a Major in the military have to step out and rely on lower level officers to take care of things it's usually not a problem.

Odds are they will make mistakes but eventually learn from those mistakes and probably improve it better than it was before since they are more open to suggestions and willing to try different approaches.

I think this is what we will see at first. Mistakes, corrections, and then back on course for the playoffs. What I'm concerned about is if we do make the playoffs there could be a problem with them all staying in their respected lanes. I think that will be the biggest challenge. Let's hope they decide early that whoever is in charge at the time is in charge period.

I assumed it was Carmichael since he stepped in last year.
What hurts is that this is when Loomis is out, so if the first choice goes sideways, we won't be able to make a change.

Carmichael + Brees can keep the team/offense together for the first 6 games until Vitt comes back...

Spagnoulo can't do any worse on defense than GW the past couple of years...

I ain't worried, I can't change any of it so no need to be

It's okay guys, Loomis has already said Aaron Brooks is coming back for a special appearance and run as interim head coach.

I don't feel the exact emotion and sentiment as The Dude, but he has a point in there (somewhere).
I've said all along that the loss of Sean Payton for this season pretty much spells trouble.

How many teams are playing this season without their head coach?
How many teams play ANY season without their head coach?
Nobody really wants listen, and I can understand why. But these are facts and I know members will come here to complain bitterly at the missed opportunity due to poor elementary decisions this season and I want everyone to have this sink in!

How good was Green Bay without Lombardi?
How good was San Fran without Bill Walsh? Would they waltz into the Superbowl just on talent and Joe Montana's arm?

In football, the leader (head coach) is extremely important. There are "on the field" leaders who are field generals that bring the same tenacity and drive of the head coach to the field... they are generally NOT decision makers.

The head coach balances platoon based athletic military exercise with the chaos of the game itself. We have all seen teams that were bad under one coach turn to winning the next season with a coaching change.

Last year we saw bloopers, blips and blunders with Vitt and Carmichael at the helm while Sean Payton was out.

Don't preach to me about the Colts game! We ran the ball on pitch sweeps the second half to run out the clock. That game was as much a testament to how bad the Colts were.

Anyone remember the Tampa Bay game after Sean Payton was knocked out? Anyone remember the game management during that game? It took our sideline forever to call a timeout.

Who was in command during the Rams game? What went well that game?

It's going to be very hard for our team this season. I'm not a Kool-Aid drinker who believes we will coast into the playoffs and Superbowl on talent alone.

Goodell knew exactly what he was doing when he "KILLED THE HEAD" of the Saints.... he threw out Sean Payton whether he's guilty of anything or not. That's the biggest damage done to our team before the season begins.

I WILL BE IN THAT NUMBER EVERY WEEK! Wouldn't miss a game. Just food for thought.

Counterpoint:
Barry Switzer
Jim Caldwell

The defense rests, Your Honor.

And, the whole NFL world will be turned upside down when Bill Parcells comes out the tunnel for game 1.

Barry Switzer and Jim Caldwell enjoyed the luxury of being named head coach of a team and being on the field coaching and not suspended for entire or part of the season.

Switzer had extensive coaching experience before going to Dallas. He was also Jimmy Johnson's best friend and college roommate.

Caldwell is more analogous because that team was good based on talent on the team - Manning.
But Caldwell made some key decision errors to lose the Superbowl too.

I see your point Tobias.

King the Hack says his money's on Spag. He flat out sucked as HC. I hope they leave him alone to really get the defense dialed in.
