BATON ROUGE -- Gov. Kathleen Blanco said Thursday she may have to resort to borrowing money or tap year-end surpluses from one or more state agencies to pay $7.1 million owed to the New Orleans Saints next month.

"For the time being, we may have to beg or borrow money from one or another pots of money out there," Blanco said before leaving for former President Reagan's funeral in the nation's capital. "Every morning I wake up with a new idea (on how to make the Saints payment) . . . and then my idea blows up."

Blanco said she has not ruled out any source of money, but she said she's "not quite" at the point of conceding the use of money from the general fund -- which pays for health care, education and other programs. The payment is due July 5.
