ESPN.com reported Vilma had received an offer that would reduce his suspension to eight games on the condition that the linebacker drop his defamation lawsuit against NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, citing sources familiar with discussions by the NFL, the NFL Players Association and the counsel for Vilma and three other suspended players.
NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said the league had no comment on the report. The two sides are scheduled to appear before U.S. District Court Judge Ginger Berrigan on Friday. The courts have ordered the parties to engage in settlement discussions. Vilma and Saints defensive end Will Smith (four games), now-Green Bay Packers defensive tackle Anthony Hargrove (eight games) and now-Cleveland Browns linebacker Scott Fujita (three games) were all suspended for their roles in the "bounty" program, in which former Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams ran a system from 2009 to 2011 that allegedly rewarded defensive players for injuring or knocking opponents out of games. If they are going to cut Vilma's in half, they should cut all players the same. Coach Payton is management, so not sure how they would handle him. If the NFL is willing to cut instead of go to court, makes you wonder just how much they can actually prove anyway.

I think they will rethink everything. Even coach Payton.

If a Federal judge stated she had problems with me I take that to mean it would behoove me to work something out on the sidelines. She did say maybe there is nothing she could do but how strong is that "maybe" now that she has had time to examine things?
NFL needs to compare their snowball stand to BP's high rise. BP thought their contracts were spade tight as well but that didn't work out so well for them. |

Just saw on NFL Network, no offer has been made by NFL per NFL's statement and they will not furhter comment.
Hmmmm....I'll take this meeting in court as hope of some change , bargain, that might happen...Vilma might have to STFU. Be suspended for a few games and STFU. That would be good because as the season starts soon, (after these preseason games) ,I really don't want to hear of any of this every game the Saints by the commentators. It is about for the good of the Saints team now and talk about each game. This all needs to be over and out whatever the decisions are or wahtever happens off in court , lawyers and NFL offices...enough! |

Hell no! Take this crap all the way. Yes we are sick about hearing about it, but it doesn't mean the truth needs to come out.

Yea Vilma doesn't need to "STFU" if he is right and being wrongfully accused by the NFL's dictatorship

The bad thing is that no matter how much we want it to makego away and not mentioned again if a settlement is reached, there will be some jackass commentators that will make it a point to bring it up every game they cover of the Saints. (Cristina Collinsworth, Briana Billick, etc..)
